Chica is a beautiful, brindle 2-year-old Frenchie who was surrendered to French Bulldog Village by a family that no longer was able to cover the cost of her medical needs. Chica suffers from allergies which causes her to lick her feet. She requires a prescription diet of Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Adult PS dog food and daily Apoquel. She also has issues with her ears due to having had severe ear infections. She will need drops in both ears each day possibly for the rest of her life to prevent future infections and the possibility of a total ear canal ablation.

She is being fostered in Florida with a wonderful foster family who has a resident cat and dog. She has shown food aggression towards the cat if the cat is near her food dish before and during her feeding. Her foster family just makes sure the cat stays away during feeding. Chica is all about food!!! Don’t leave any food on the kitchen table with a chair pulled out or she will jump onto the chair and then onto the table to get the food. No food can be left on a coffee table or end table near a chair because she will try to get it if your back is turned. Chica has gotten a little better at breaking this habit since being in her foster home; however, this will still need to be watched in her fur-ever home. Her foster family wonders if maybe she had to compete for her food with other dogs in her previous home.

She likes to be first in everything when another dog is around…the first out the door, the first to get a treat, and the first to be pet. If you are giving another dog affection, Chica will want some too. She likes to play boss but when she plays with the resident dog, Rylai, she will be submissive when they both have a grip on the same toy. When chewing on the same toy during play, Chica will lie down on her side and let Rylai pull her around when trying to get the toy away from her. Chica and Rylai are fed in different locations of the house because Chica tends to eat quickly and then will stand there and stare at Rylai until she is done eating or walks away. Once Rylai is done, Chica will check out her bowl just to make sure nothing is left.

She loves running all over the house with a toy in her mouth and playing with stuffed toys especially with another dog. However, look out because she will chew them until she has holes with fluff coming out. Her foster parents give her antlers and hard treats that can’t be eaten in one bite and swallowed. Chica likes going on walks but will stop to smell all the scents along the way. She is as fast as lightning so will need to be leashed when going potty (if her new home does not have a fenced yard) and for walks. If she sees a rabbit or squirrel, she will be gone just like that! She does well traveling in the car and tolerates bathing just fine. However, when it comes to cleaning her ears and putting in her drops, it can take two people to manage…her ear care is not her favorite thing. She also likes to jump on people when greeting them but her foster home continues to work on this.

Chica would love to be adopted by a family that has at least one other dog. She also requires a family with older (ages 10+), dog savvy children. She is leash trained and housebroken. However, crating is a problem….she hates being crated and being kept behind a gate!! She does not require a stay at home person or mid-day potty break….though what dog wouldn’t love a mid-day visit or walk!

Chica is a Velcro dog!! She is always at your side, but especially prefers being with her foster dad. She gets along with all humans but does lean towards men. When you sit down, she has to sit with you, and she will follow you to the washroom. When sleeping at night, she has to be touching you.

She is a small nugget who just wants to be loved and considered part of the family. She will always give her people unconditional love and attention and never leave their sides. Her new family will need to continue her ear and allergy routine to help her with the feet licking and to ensure her ears do not get worse, but this gal is worth it. If you feel you can handle the financial responsibility of Chica’s care and have already fallen in love with this sweet girl’s face, please submit your application to adopt today!
