Jacques in Massachusetts

 Jacques in Massachusetts

Jacques is ready to look for his forever home. He has put together a want ad, this is what he has to say:

Man looking for true love.

I’m five years old, 23 pounds and in the prime of my life. I have a brindle coat, brown eyes and a warm smile.  I like long runs in the yard and sitting in front of the fireplace. I like scratches behind the ear, and a good meal. What I like most is to spend time with my human(s).

Like most who have loved and lost before, I have trust issues, I’ve been hurt, I’ve been lonely, and I’ve been scared. I’m looking for the one who can understand me, work with me, build trust with, and learn things with. I have my quirks, I have my issues but I know there’s someone out there for me. I know there is someone out there I can love and who will love me. I’m a smart funny guy. I know how to chew on a tennis ball and play soccer at the same time, I can sit, lay down, rollover, and jump for the sky. I am loyal, I am your friend. I want you to be my friend.

It will take a special someone to make it into my heart but I know they’re out there. I need time to build trust with you, and know that you will treat me right. There are things I don’t like, you will learn quickly, but to give you a little insight, please don’t grab my feet. I need to continue to work on having the grooming that a man of my stature deserves. I don’t appreciate the inside of my ears being touched as well, heads up don’t try to wipe my face or well any of me with a towel or napkin.  If you need to wake me up, please call my name, don’t wake me physically. I don’t realize what’s going on and I will react unkindly. At first you will think I am a grumpy goblin but then as time goes on you will realize that at heart I’m a little happy munchkin who deserves your love and affection and respect. You may have to tell me to walk away from something, I will if you tell me. I don’t recommend you trying to take it from me, I don’t realize that you have my best intentions in mind.

I have hurt some before who have not heeded my warnings though there are a couple who are known as my foster family who have learned that with time and trust my inner happy munchkin comes out. They have told me and I have learned that they truly love me, I now know it’s possible that someone really cares. For that right person who is willing to learn what I need, someone who is willing to show me compassion, and strength, and keep me on a good routine, I can be your best friend. Think hard, really consider if you are that special someone for me. If you are, please consider making me a part of your family, I promise that with time and with shared trust, and love we will be a happy family. I am a good boy.

He would not be safe with cats and children.  An adopter with dog experiance is a must and some one who can follow his routine, rules and continue training. He needs some one who will have patience with him as he will need to build trust with his adoptive family before a healthy relationship can be built.

What you read here is based on Jacques’ observed behavior while in his current foster home.

Jacques has a bite history, he has shown fear aggression and he has guarding issues. There are some things Jaques may never get over, there are other things that once trust is established will fade. If you are interested in giving this beautiful boy a home, you need to understand he comes with rules. These rules are not in place to get in the way of your relationship with him, the rules have come from learning his behaviors, understanding his needs, and learning how to love and live with Jacques. He’s a wonderful boy, in the months that he has been with us he has come a long way. He truly has a place in our heart. He loves to play with other dogs, he also loves to play with his humans. Tennis balls are his favorite, I can’t stress that enough. He also likes to play tug-of-war, chew on  bones, throw around stuffy’s, and of course let you know when the mailman has come. He travels, has been in hotel rooms, visited family for holidays and completed long car rides.

Jacques should not live with cats, he thinks they are tasty and full of fluff. He loves to play with other dogs, he can be a bit overzealous so caution should be taken with elderly or compromised pups. Jacques should also not live with children, if children visit he needs to be supervised as children don’t understand his rules. He is also more than happy to hang out upstairs or in another area while the little ones are around. He is fully house broken, and is very good with his crate. Jacques has been eating a one protein one carbohydrate diet as when he arrived he had some itchy skin. The diet has worked great.

This little guy may sound like a lot of work, but let me be the first to tell you he is worth it.
