Dobby is not yet ready for adoption. We are still evaluating his behavior and addressing his medical needs. An email notification will be sent when he becomes ready for adoption. If you wish to receive the notification, please sign up for our mailing list at the top of the front page of our website. Adoption fees are set at the time a dog goes available and applications can only be submitted at that time. Please follow our website and social media pages for updates on Dobby!

Dobby is a 9-month-old blue sable Frenchie who came into rescue on August 13th. He came from a very loving family who unfortunately did not have Frenchie experience or the financial means to care for a puppy with special needs. Their vet suggested that Dobby may have IVDD and was in need of x-rays and MRI’s. Unfortunately, this was not an option financially for the family. He was put on prednisone for an extended period of time but when he did not improve, they decided to surrender him to FBV for him to receive the best care possible.

After being surrendered, he was given an initial vet visit with x-rays, a fecal exam, and a full blood panel. The initial intake vet made note of some skeletal abnormalities. His blood panel came back normal and his fecal exam was negative for parasites. Dobby then was seen by a neurologist and was found to have a severe congenital bony malformation of his spine that is causing stenosis of his spinal cord. Dobby wiggles and shakes when he walks. He has difficulty when going to the bathroom because it takes a lot of effort for him to lift his leg or squat. However, he is not in pain and at this time surgery is not recommended.

Dobby also suffers from allergies and is currently on a single protein lamb diet. Another issue this poor little guy has is that his testicles have yet to descend. When he is neutered, it will take a more invasive surgery than a normal neuter because of his undescended testicles. As with all brachycephalic breeds, caution will need to be taken with his breathing throughout his lifetime. He can play and be a ‘dog’ but should not be overly active and will not be able to jump on/off furniture or handle stairs (he will require a ramp for getting on and off couches/beds and will need to be carried up/down stairs).

For a young dog who can’t walk straight, struggles to relieve himself, and has allergies, he is one of the nicest dogs you will ever meet. He absolutely loves to be snuggled and held. He loves his foster parents and resident foster dog siblings. He tries to “play” with the other dogs by laying with them and chewing on toys with them. However, he is unsure about the resident cat and is scared of the guinea pigs in the house.

Dobby is a very sweet puppy...a total love bug. He just wants to be around people and his furry friends. He loves kisses from his people and gives plenty in return. When he gets a potty treat, he does a little shuffle dance with his front paws. Occasionally he tries out his bark, but it's not often. Despite all his hurdles, Dobby is a wonderful pup with a positive attitude. He will make someone a wonderful companion when he is ready for adoption.

We greatly appreciate any and all donations! $1000 will help us provide Dobby with some basic essentials, such as food, bowls, and a harness as well as help us cover some of his vet bills.
