LOLITA HAS A BITE HISTORY!

She will not be placed in a home with any of the following household members: small children or children under 10 years of age, dogs (small or large, male or female), cats, birds, or other small animals.

We received a call from a rural Indiana shelter about a stray female French Bulldog. After her stray hold was up and she went unclaimed, discussions started and it wasn’t long before we brought this little girl into the Village. She was bestowed the name Lolita by her loving Foster Mom and her journey to finding the perfect forever began. Our first step with any of our dogs is a vet visit. This helps us determine a baseline for where our dogs are at health wise. As Lolita came to us as a stray, her vaccine history was unknown and she was battling a severe skin infection. Luckily she was already spayed. Getting her skin issues addressed was priority and we are happy to report that she’s all healed up! She’s also now up-to-date on vaccinations and heartworm/flea preventative.

It’s important for Lolita’s new owner to understand that she will always have to contend with allergies. Her original skin infection seemed to stem from an uncontrolled flea infestation. Keeping her on flea prevention will go a long way to help future outbreaks but it is not a guarantee that she will have flare-ups. Luckily Lolita does not mind baths, which is good because she has to have them frequently to keep her skin in good shape.

In addition to Lolita’s allergies, she also has what is called a “screw tail.” This is common in French and English Bulldogs and most of the time, doesn’t cause problems. However, in Lolita’s case her tail is very tight and requires daily upkeep to keep it clean and dry. When her skin infection was at its worst, there was consideration that her tail may need to be removed. However, now that her skin is under control, daily maintenance seems to be keeping things in check. We cannot offer any guarantee that a tail amputation will not be deemed necessary in the future. This is a serious surgery and should not be undertaken without getting both an initial consultation and a 2nd opinion.

We feel that it’s necessary to disclose that Lolita is your typical Frenchie, but it’s possible that there might be some other athletic breed in her bloodlines. She’s got your typical Frenchie traits…sweet and frisky, selective hearing…but she’s highly athletic and has a very strong prey drive. This is why she will not be placed in a home with cats, birds or other small animals. The good news is that her longer snout and leaner build means that she is a good breathing and physically hardy bulldog.

Lolita also has some fearful tendencies that are especially apparent when she meets new people. She does bite when fearful (not with pressure and not to hurt) and trembles. This (along with just her general rowdiness) is why we will NOT consider homes with small children. Any home that has children must be over the age of 10 and exceptionally dog savvy. Lolita also does not enjoy trips to the vet. Even though he is very kind and gentle, she has snapped at him. This stems from fear, not aggression and we are looking for a new owner who understands the difference. Lolita is a sweet darling girl that is very sensitive to any type of correction. She has been known to pout and wither even with a mild “no.” A home that has experience with fearful dogs and knows how to build a dog’s confidence and win its trust would be a huge asset for her. No matter what, she must be treated only with kindness and patience and it be understood that she is fragile.

Lolita is mostly easy-going but does have her rowdy times and occasionally has a case of the zoomies. These rowdy times don’t last for more than a few minutes but they are over-the-top joyful times. When very rowdy, she will play bite–a bit assertively but all in fun judging from her posture and smile. Even though she was silent at the shelter, she has found her voice; she barks and barks and barks during playtime (although is mostly quiet the other times of her day). She walks pretty well on a leash and loves walks and car rides. When walking, she will lunge at other animals, people, even yard decorations! We believe that with continued focus, this could improve but because of this we also believe a home with a solid fenced yard would be best. She must NEVER be trusted off leash.

Lolita does not take well to being crated which actually doesn’t seem to be a problem because she does pretty well in the house. She sometimes has the occasional accident but this seems to be more the result of a communication issue between her and her foster parents. Sometimes her cues are not as direct as they need to be for her folks to understand her needs!

Lolita loves to sleep with her foster humans. This, along with her walks, car rides and cuddling, is one of her favorite things. So we are looking for a forever home where doggies are welcome in the human bed. She also loves french fries, popcorn and treats! She’s a super strong chewer and enjoys the dinosaur shaped Nylabones.

We know that after reading this, that Lolita seems like a handful! Our intent is to be up-front and honest about all her traits so that she can find the perfect fit in her forever home. The very best home for Lolita would be a place where she can be herself and loved for that. She cannot share the spotlight; she must be an only dog. She must be treated kindly with no harsh words or rebukes and needs a home that is happy, friendly and playful. She is a loyal, loving companion with a jolly heart.
