Monty is not yet ready for adoption. We are still evaluating his behavior and addressing his medical needs. An email notification will be sent when he becomes ready for adoption. If you wish to receive the notification, please sign up for our mailing list at the top of the front page of our website. Adoption fees are set at the time a dog goes available and applications can only be submitted at that time. Please follow our website and social media pages for updates on Monty!
Monty joined FBV after we were contacted by a shelter in Ohio. He was found as a stray and no one came to claim him. Monty is 6 years old and very clearly needed our help. After immediately getting him to the vet, the doctor was so concerned about his neurological decline that she personally drove him to the ER to be seen by the neurologist. It was discovered that he had an upper respiratory infection, bladder stones, and a neurological deficit in all 4 of his legs. He couldn't raise himself up to eat and was falling over.
Due to his neuro deficits, he needed an MRI right away. Once he received the MRI, he was sent directly to emergency surgery for a severe cervical disk rupture at his C3 and C4 vertebrae. The surgery went very well and since surgery, Monty has been able to stand, take a few steps, and use the bathroom all on his own! After being released from the emergency hospital, he remained at the general vet hospital for medical boarding and observation as he improved from his upper respiratory infection.
Monty is now finally with his foster family after traveling across three states to get there. He is currently on crate rest and recovering from his surgery 14 days ago. When he does get to come out of his crate for potty breaks, he loves to be with his people and shower them with kisses and friendly nibbles. He is quite the Velcro dog!
Monty is a special little guy with loads of determination and personality. He is working on his manners and potty training while in foster care. His personality, likes and dislikes are still being assessed, but we are certain that Monty is one sweet little guy and full of so much love.
He will need to have his bladder stones removed and will have this done at the same time he is neutered. He also may need some physical therapy before being ready for adoption. Please stay tuned for updates on our little fighter….and please keep him in your thoughts as he continues to heal from his medical issues.
We greatly appreciate any and all donations! $5000 will help us provide Spike with some basic essentials, such as food, bowls, and a harness, as well as help us cover some of his vet bills.
