Melvin is not yet ready for adoption. We are still evaluating his personality and addressing his medical needs. An email notification will be sent when he becomes ready for adoption. If you wish to receive the notification, please sign up for our mailing list at the top of the front page of our website. Adoption fees are set at the time a dog goes available and applications can only be submitted at that time. Please follow our website and social media pages for updates on Mel!
Please welcome Melvin (Mel) to the Village. He is 7 months old and unfortunately is suffering from seizures. He had a very rough first couple of weeks in foster care having focal seizures up to 10 times a day. He was seen by a neurologist last week and had an MRI and other testing. The MRI showed mild hydrocephalus. He also was found to have low phenobarbital levels, so his dosage was increased. A spinal tap showed increased white blood cells in the fluid so they will be doing further testing to rule out an infectious disease. He has been started on antibiotics and a low dose of prednisone until the test results are back. The vet feels it is more likely autoimmune meningitis/encephalitis causing his seizures and not epilepsy.
Mel is the sweetest little guy! He loves everyone he meets…humans and animals. He loves to run and play and is convinced he can win tug of war with his bigger doggie sibling. He is not housebroken and seems to have no clue that outside is the place to go potty. His foster home is working on this but right now he looks at them like they are crazy for wanting him to go outside…he would prefer to go in his crate.
This love bug will make someone very lucky when he is ready to find his furever. Be sure to keep an eye out for updates!
We greatly appreciate any and all donations! $500 will help us provide Mel with some basic essentials, such as a leash and food, as well as help us cover some of his vet bills.
