1/17/2020:

We are completely heartbroken to announce the passing of Scooby. He was such a special little guy. His hospice foster mom shared this wonderful memorial with us:

“I would just like to let everyone know that we sadly had to say goodbye to our beloved Scooby. Although 15 months ago, I knew this day would come it was completely devastating. Scooby brought me the most joy of any foster I have brought into my family in the last 15 years. He was truly a special boy. I am grateful that I was given the opportunity by the Village to care for and give him a safe and happy place to call his own. I love him and will miss him so very much every day. So even though I am crying, I am also smiling thinking of all the joy he brought us.”

Such a beautiful tribute to an amazing pup who brought joy to everyone who knew him. We all will miss Scooby here at FBV and our hearts break for his foster mom. Love and hugs to her during this difficult time.

Update 1/27/2019:

We are extremely saddened to announce that ScoobyDo has been moved to hospice care.

Our precious, ScoobyDo, is in kidney failure and all tests that have been performed have ruled out any other possible causes. Unfortunately, Scooby was left undiagnosed and untreated for such a significant amount of time before he came to us, so we were unable to reverse any of his clinical signs of kidney failure but believe us we have tried. We have tried everything with him….AND by everything, we mean everything!

Scooby is such a sweet boy who loves the attention he gets from everyone! He is always happy and loves to play, especially with his blue bone with which he is completely obsessed!! His foster family will ensure that he keeps living the best life possible, and he will enjoy all the time he has left with his foster family loved and spoiled.

While we are heartbroken that Scooby’s kidney failure cannot be reversed, we are happy that he will be spending the remainder of his time being unconditionally loved.

Scooby recently came to the Village at APPROXIMATELY 3 years old, with a floppy ear, blindness in both eyes, anemia and kidney failure! What a life he had as a “breeding dog.” He has been diagnosed with pyelonephritis, a chronic kidney infection, which led to anemia.

The kidney infection probably first started with an enlarged prostrate; he was never neutered. The infection in the prostrate then ascended into the kidneys.

He was diagnosed as borderline in need of a blood transfusion. However, the vets suggested that due to the slow progression of the anemia rather than transfuse we try a medication to stimulate his body to make more red blood cells.

This medication has to be given by injection every 7 days and a 30 day supply costs $300.00. He is on a prescription kidney diet and probably will need to remain on this for the rest of his life. Once his anemia and kidney values improve we will address his eyes. He will probably need to have at least one of his eyes removed due to increased pressure in that eye.

In the meantime, Scooby is getting great care. His foster mom is a Vet Tech well able to monitor his condition and give injections.

This sweet little man has probably struggled for a long time with these issues but he is on the road to a healthier life…and his floppy ear just popped up yesterday! We Villagers call it miracle ear!

VILLAGE FOLLOWERS…URGENT PLEA!

The Village was approached a few days ago with a request we intake a black mask fawn boy from a Florida backyard breeder. The photos alone tore our hearts; we determined he needed a chance! This 2-3 yr old dog was nothing more than a breeding machine…crate was his life, blind in both eyes with one eyeball protruding, one ear broken and floppy. We gave him the name ScoobyDo and proceeded to do his vet check…only to find his anemia was extreme and his kidneys were not healthy. He is currently at a specialist vet for ultrasound to see what we may be able to do to help him…

This is the dirty hidden underbelly of rescue…and more often what we see than not! But…we need help! Please donate, any amount is welcome, as we have some pretty weak kids who have come to the Village recently and in true Village fashion we plan to do the best for them…The Village may be small but our hearts are big! Won’t you please help us to help them?

Hi everyone! My name is Jack. I was surrendered to French Bulldog Village due to allergies and because I wasn’t the right fit for my previous family.

My foster mom took me to see the vet and the nice vet lady said that I am very cute (but, of course). She also said that I am pretty healthy for a 4 year old. My only health issue is severe allergies (I know I’m not the only Frog with allergies!), but they are being well-controlled with a hunk of cheese every day. My foster mom says there is a pill (Apoquel) in the cheese I am given, but I don’t believe her. Apparently, this Apoquel pill and the good diet I am on are really helping to alleviate my allergies…..and my daily allergy medication costs only $2.25/day.

I only know one command, which is “sit,” but I am definitely open to learning more commands. A fenced yard is a requirement for me, but I am leash trained. I am also crate trained, but prefer not to be crated if at all possible. I am housebroken, too.

I don’t require someone to be home with me all day or a pet sitter/dog walker to come to let me out for a mid-day break, but I would definitely love it! My ideal home would include a person that is home most of the day because I really do enjoy humans much more than dogs. I would actually be fine without a doggie companion in my forever home, because I don’t play that much with other dogs anyway.

I am a calm dog unless I see people and dogs that I don’t know. I must admit that I go temporarily “crazy” when I see a stranger. With my 4 foster doggie siblings, I pretty much keep to myself. I have no beef with them when it comes to food or toys. Humans are much more important to me than dogs. I absolutely love to snuggle with my person!

I do have a 4 year old’s energy and will need a walk or two each day. I LOVE large balls and have recently started chewing on Nylabones. Despite all of this, I still would prefer sitting on my person’s lap (no matter what my person is doing) to anything else.

I do have to confess that I have some emotional baggage from living in an abusive situation before my previous mom saved me. When I see strange people and dogs in passing, I get frantic and start the Frenchie death yodel. My foster mom thinks that I am scared and with some confidence building, my fears will improve. This could take a while, though, so I will require a lot of love and patience from my forever home.

My previous mommy who saved me was a teacher and would take me to school with her, so I am good with children. She did notice, however, that I would sometimes become reactive towards certain men like the UPS man. I also got a little nippy with a guy with a weed eater and a gentleman using a walker.

I am really an amazing little guy. I know that I won’t be available for long, because my foster mom says that I am “PERFECT.” Please consider applying for me. I promise you won’t regret it if you are chosen to be my forever home!
