Sugar in Michigan

FBVadmin — Sun, 28 Jun 2026 16:45:22 +0000

UPDATE 6/28/2026

Sugar has now transitioned to hospice care. At 11 years old, with increasing behavioral challenges and a history of threatening to bite, the kindest and safest decision is for her to remain in her foster home for the rest of her life. Both her veterinarian and trainer have noted significant discomfort in her hind end, and she is now on Carprofen to help manage that pain.

Sugar’s behavior has become unpredictable and at times intimidating. She displays people‑directed aggression—she has not bitten, but she will threaten to—and her reactions can shift quickly depending on her mood. There are signs of possible cognitive decline as well, with erratic behavior and moments that suggest senility. She has grown deeply attached to her foster family and becomes distressed when separated, often howling until she is reunited with them.

Despite these challenges, Sugar remains reliably good with other dogs, finding comfort and stability in their presence.

Sugar will spend her remaining days surrounded by the people she trusts most, in a home where she feels safe, understood, and loved.

Sugar — The Dramatic Diva

Some dogs enter rescue with a story that makes you pause, breathe, and whisper, “Oh, sweetheart…” Sugar is one of those dogs. For roughly six long weeks, she lived alone in a house, visited only once a day for food and a quick tidy‑up. It’s the kind of lonely stretch that could dim any spirit — but Sugar’s spark never went out.

Now nestled safely in her foster home, she’s showing everyone that resilience comes in many flavors: sometimes it’s a determined little trot, sometimes it’s a huffy sigh worthy of a stage production. Upon entering rescue, she began a gentle diet-and-exercise routine to help shed a few extra “love pounds,” and to keep mealtimes peaceful, she dines separately from the other dogs — a setup that suits her just fine.

Sugar is a 10‑year‑old blonde bombshell with enormous brown eyes that could win awards for emotional range. She’s already mingling with the resident dogs, though she’s not shy about voicing her opinions. And when foster mom corrects her? Oh, the drama. Sugar delivers a full performance: a deep sigh, a stomp for emphasis, and a grand march into her crate as if she’s been tragically misunderstood.

She’s a potty‑pad sharpshooter who’s transitioning beautifully to outdoor potty breaks now that the weather is warm. And every so often, she lifts her head and releases a soulful, operatic howl — maybe calling to the moon, maybe channeling her inner artist, maybe just reminding the world that she is, indeed, a diva.

Sugar’s story may have started in silence, but she’s making up for lost time with personality, flair, and a heart that’s ready to shine.

We greatly appreciate any and all donations! Your donations will help us provide care to Sugar during the remainder of her life.

Penny in South Carolina

FBVadmin — Wed, 08 Apr 2026 22:00:00 +0000

An Update on Our Sweet Penny (8/29/2026)

We have a difficult update to share. The mass removed from Penny’s right knee was confirmed to be a high-grade mast cell tumor, an aggressive form of cancer. While the surgical margins are clear, additional findings indicate concern for aggressive disease.

A second mass is still undergoing testing and could be another mast cell tumor or possibly lymphoma. We also received confirmation that Penny has copper storage disease, making her medical case even more complicated.

There is some good news—her gallbladder culture came back negative with no bacterial growth. For now, her veterinarian has recommended supportive treatment while we wait for more answers.

Most importantly, Penny is still Penny.

She is active, happy, playful, sweet, and loving life. If you met her, you would probably never know she is facing something so serious.

As we determine what comes next, FBV will continue making sure Penny receives all the care, comfort, love, and medical support she needs. Hospice doesn’t mean giving up—it means making every day as happy and comfortable as possible.

Please keep Penny in your thoughts and prayers, and if you’re able, consider donating toward her ongoing care.

Penny still has so much life and love in her—and we’re going to make every day count.

Penny is a 7‑year‑old sweetheart who arrived to rescue after being surrendered by her owner, and she has been charming everyone ever since. With her prettiest blue eyes, soft-as-a-cloud fur, and a personality that lands somewhere between “gentle old soul” and “goofy sidekick,” she’s impossible not to adore.

This 30‑pound fluff queen is working on shedding a few extra pounds, but she makes it easy — she’s a dream on a leash and absolutely loves her walks. She’s also house-trained with zero accidents, though she’s more of a “silent potty professional” than a dog who announces her needs. Open the door and she trots right out like the responsible lady she is.

Medically, Penny has a couple of growths that will need removal and a dental on the horizon. For now, she’s waiting on a liver value recheck in about a month, since her last bloodwork showed elevated levels. Once cleared, she’ll be ready for her little tune‑ups.

Penny has been a total gem with the resident male Frenchies — respectful, friendly, and unbothered even when one of them made it clear he wasn’t thrilled about sharing his kingdom. She just keeps wagging, smiling, and being her sweet, goofy self.

And then there’s her signature quirk: Penny is the proud President of the FOMO Club. Because she may not hear 100%, she wants to be where her people are. If she wakes up and can’t find anyone, she’ll do a little zoomie search mission until she locates her humans. It’s adorable… and also why she thrives with structure.

She must be crated when left alone or sleeping at night. Without that safe boundary, she’ll pace and pant — something her prior owner even took her to the ER for, thinking she was “hyperventilating.” In foster care, she’s learning that calm, clear direction helps her settle. When she gets too panty or overwhelmed, a simple “go lie down” works like magic. She does best when her humans don’t hype her up during comings and goings and instead give her predictable routines and fewer choices. Too many options = too much pressure for this tenderhearted girl.

We greatly appreciate any and all donations! Your donations will help us to continue to provide Penny with the care she needs throughout the remainder of her life.

Sue in New York

FBVadmin — Wed, 04 Feb 2026 06:50:29 +0000

Sue’s Story: A New Chapter as a Hospice Foster

Sometimes rescue means accepting that we can’t change the diagnosis — but we can change everything about what comes after it.

Sweet 5‑year‑old Sue came to FBV when her previous owner’s job began requiring frequent travel. Because Sue doesn’t travel well, he made the loving, selfless decision to find her a home where she could enjoy stability, companionship, and the everyday closeness she thrives on. Originally purchased from a breeder and having had multiple litters, Sue is finally getting the chance to be someone’s cherished companion.

During her intake and routine monitoring, Sue’s foster family and veterinary team noticed subtle changes that prompted further testing. After months of careful observation, Sue was diagnosed with renal amyloidosis, a condition where abnormal proteins accumulate in the kidneys and can eventually lead to kidney failure.

The good news — and it truly is good news — is that Sue’s condition was caught early. She has not gone into renal failure, and right now she is responding well to treatment. She is comfortable, happy, and enjoying a wonderful quality of life.

Because this disease can be unpredictable, we don’t know whether Sue has months or even years ahead of her. For that reason, she will remain with her loving foster family as a hospice foster, where she’ll continue receiving regular veterinary care, monitoring, and all the comforts she adores.

And in the meantime? Sue gets cozy beds. Treats. Sunshine. Cuddles. Piglet sniffs. Foam‑step sofa access (even when politely discouraged). And most importantly, a home filled with love.

Sue is housebroken, with only a couple of minor accidents as she adjusted to her new environment. She’s recovering beautifully from her spay and may have mild allergies that show up as occasional paw licking, but nothing out of the ordinary for a Frenchie. She sleeps through the night, rises early, and follows her humans from room to room with unwavering devotion. She’s gentle with other dogs, enjoys meeting new canine friends on walks, and has shown no aggression toward the resident Frenchie.

She’s missing a few teeth, which makes her tongue peek out in the most endearing way, and she snores in certain positions — but she has no other breathing issues. Mostly, she just wants to be close to her people, offering kisses, companionship, and her signature snuffly explorations.

Sue’s medical journey isn’t over — and neither is her story. Please keep your paws crossed that her medications continue to work and that she has many comfortable, joy‑filled days ahead.

If you’d like to help FBV continue providing Sue with the veterinary care she needs, donations are always deeply appreciated.

We may not be able to change Sue’s diagnosis, but we can make sure every day she has is filled with love.

Every donation, big or small, helps us continue providing Sue with the care she’ll need for the rest of her life, and we are truly thankful.

Otis in South Carolina

FBVadmin — Fri, 05 Dec 2025 01:32:42 +0000

Otis has officially become one of our cherished hospice pups and will spend the rest of his days wrapped in the love and comfort of his devoted foster family.

During his neuter, Otis also underwent a scrotal ablation to remove a mass. Sadly, pathology revealed it to be a grade 3 mast cell tumor — the most aggressive form. Although the surgeons were able to achieve clear margins, the likelihood of recurrence or spread remains high.

He also recently began experiencing syncope episodes. He was seen again by cardiology as well as oncology, and together with his medical team, foster family, and the Board, the decision was made to focus on palliative care. Otis will now be surrounded by comfort, stability, and love for however long he chooses to stay.

At 6-7 years old and about 26 pounds, Otis is the kind of ham who can win you over with one goofy grin and a snort that sounds suspiciously like a lawnmower. He came to rescue with itchy skin and pesky ear infections, but don’t let that fool you—this boy is already proving he’s tougher (and sweeter) than he looks.

Otis is housebroken, crate trained, and walks nicely on a leash—basically the trifecta of “good boy” skills. He can be shy at first but give him a little time and suddenly you’ve got a full‑blown love bug glued to your side. He’s even met the resident dog without a fuss and is starting to show off his playful side. Bonus: he loves being outdoors, so if you’ve got a yard or enjoy strolls, Otis will be your snorty sidekick.

He does have some hearing loss right now, but we’re hopeful it’s just temporary while his ears heal. He’s also scheduled for a little tune‑up while under anesthesia for his neuter—his nares will be widened to help him breathe easier, and he’ll have a scrotal ablation to remove a mass. In the meantime, he’s rocking medicated baths, antibiotics, and ear meds like a champ.

Otis is the perfect mix of silly and sweet: a shy guy who blossoms into a cuddle bug, a snorty comedian who’ll keep you laughing, and a resilient pup who’s ready to leave his itchy past behind for a future full of love.

We greatly appreciate any and all donations! Your donations will help us provide Otis with the care he will require for his remaining days.

Livy in Texas

FBVadmin — Sun, 18 May 2025 16:00:00 +0000

UPDATE 09/2025:

Back in August, Livvy was admitted for a liver biopsy along with a spay. She was considered to be at a higher risk, but her medical team (including her cardiologist) felt she could safely undergo the procedure with a specialized protocol, anesthesia, and close monitoring.

She did well through prep, but once in the surgical suite her heart rate dropped, and she developed dangerous arrhythmias. The team worked quickly, reversing anesthesia and keeping her stable through a scary series of complications — including a moment when she stopped breathing and turned purple. Thankfully, they re-intubated her and supported her until she pulled through.

Follow-up testing showed fluid in her lungs (pulmonary edema) caused by her heart condition (Patent Ductus Arteriosus). Because of all of this, Livvy is no longer a candidate for heart surgery. Instead, her care will focus on medication and ongoing coordination between her specialists to give her the best possible quality of life.

Given all of this, Livvy has officially joined our forever crew, alongside Tucker, as a permanent member of French Bulldog Village. She will live out her life surrounded by love, care, and family.

Livy is a tiny (16.9 lbs), 5-year-old sweetheart who has a lot of healing to do. She has a gentle nature that she has already shown by bonding so beautifully with her human foster siblings. However, she can sometimes get overwhelmed by their energy and will retreat into her crate. She loves her chin and chest scratched, and whenever her foster family comes home, she is always happy to greet them and request pets with a gentle paw.

Livy went to the vet ASAP upon coming into rescue to start her on her healing journey. Her ears are very bad. She was put on Apoquel and other medications to help with allergies and to reduce inflammation. She had lab work done. The results found that her globulins and total proteins are elevated which are consistent with her chronic ear infections and the hyperkeratosis that is affecting her mammary tissue. Thank goodness, though, the lab results otherwise were good. We are working on getting her in to see a dermatologist to assist with her skin issues.

She is also having a cardiac workup completed, including a chest x-ray and an echocardiogram with the cardiologist as she has a 4/5 (out of 6) heart murmur. The testing will tell us if her murmur is congenital or acquired.

Livy has severe dry eye and is on the following eye drops/ointment: Optimunne Ophthalmic Ointment, Optixcare Eye Lubricant, and Neo-Poly-Dex Opthalmic Suspension. She doesn’t love getting her eye drops, but since they are super important, we hope she starts to get used to them. She will need to be spayed at some point before adoption if/when her vets say she can safely have this done.

Livy is housebroken and crate trained. She will walk on a leash but not very well. She more so saunters whenever she’s ready…no running for Livy!

Despite facing some health challenges, Livy is a loving companion who adores cuddling and sitting in laps for some well-deserved pets. Her foster family has yet to hear her bark. Livy spends her time comfortably snoozing in her cozy new bed.

We greatly appreciate any and all donations! Your donations will help us provide for Livy while under our care.

Tucker in New Jersey

FBVadmin — Mon, 20 Nov 2023 18:46:15 +0000

We are thrilled to have had Tucker join the FBV family! He is a 5-year-old boy who has a laundry list of ailments. His family lovingly surrendered him when they realized that they were not able to continue to meet his needs.

Tucker came to us experiencing excessive drooling. The vets believe he may have had a stroke that has caused his tongue to hang out to one side of his mouth and has led him to have a wobbly gait. He also has regurgitation issues, so we are working on trying to find the right food for this little guy. The problem is that he also has a malformed jaw that will only allow him to open his mouth around 2 cm. This makes feeding and medicating him a challenge. It is also contributing to his low weight.

He suffers from terrible brachycephalic airway syndrome, but surgery is incredibly risky because his mouth cannot be opened very wide, and specialists would not be able to fully see his palate and saccules. He also is suspected of having focal seizures. He has been to see a Neurologist and is waiting on an MRI for further evaluation.

Through all of his medical issues, Tucker is a happy, bubbly guy who LOVES to be around people and other dogs. He loves to be snuggled and pet. He has been on an adventure to the pet store with his foster mom to pick up some toys, and he had a blast! His foster mom has found a way to help him eat better using a Fluff Trough. He gets smaller meals and is hand fed regularly.

Tucker is feisty and sweet. He is currently not in any pain and has quite a fight inside of him. As long as he is happy and pain free, it is our honor to provide him with the medical care he needs. Please follow our social media pages for updates on this special boy!

We greatly appreciate any and all donations to help with Tucker's ongoing care!
