Annie, aka Tater Tot, is approximately 6-8 years old. She was found roaming the streets a little over a year ago by a family in the Memphis area. They kept her for 8 months before they realized they were not able to give her the medical care she needed. Upon assessment at the vet, it was determined that Tater had delivered at least 3 litters in her first home and appeared to have been abandoned once she could no longer have any more puppies. In addition to the numerous c-section scars on her abdomen, Tater's entire body was very red and inflamed due to skin allergies, she had a tumor on her head and mammary gland, had cloudy runny eyes, and was reported to have a problem with her 'innie' screw tail. She was also found to be heartworm positive. Before treating Tater's heartworms, the vet needed to remove and test her tumors for cancer, assess her tail, and treat her painful skin condition. We were thrilled to find out that Tater's tumors were cancer-free, her tail does not require surgery as long as it receives daily cleaning, and her skin condition seems to be due to allergies and is significantly improved with weekly baths, daily wipes downs with anti-micro bacterial wipes, and a fish-based food. Her eyes also improved once her skin started looking better. They are still a little cloudy, but her vision appears to be fine and her eyes are no longer runny. Tater began HW treatment once she was medically cleared and handled it like the trooper she is. She completed her last injection at the beginning of August and will be retested in 6 months to ensure she is HW free.

Tater will probably always have issues with her skin depending on the area where she lives. If she is consistently wiped down, bathed, and fed a fish-based food, her skin problems should not cause her any distress. Her back legs do seem to be a little weak and she has an interesting gait. Her back nails need to be trimmed every week so that they do not grow into her paw pads. Her hind leg strength will need to be monitored as she gets older, and it would be wise to start her on a glucosamine supplement.

Annie’s foster family likes to call her, "Hot Tot,” because she has a fiery personality! Tot loves to be the center of attention regardless of who the attention is coming from and does not care if you approve or not! She is one of the most socially confident dogs her foster mom has ever met. She can take her anywhere, and Tot does not seem to care as long as she knows she is not being abandoned. Once she feels safe with you--which does not take long--she loves going on little walks, visiting friends’ homes and their dogs, riding in cars, vacations, and trips to the office. Tot would do best in a home where she can have a healthy balance of exercise, napping, and socialization.

Tot will happily take advantage of people and adult dogs that she deems submissive. She currently lives with 2 large, confident female dogs who set clear boundaries with fosters and Tot has never had an issue taking their corrections and respecting their boundaries. Tot has no problem eating meals, chewing bones, and getting into mischief alongside them. She has also been great with foster puppies. She LOVES playing with them and is very gentle with her corrections. When Tot has been around dogs with submissive and overbearing personalities, she will happily take the leader of the pack role. As a mischief-maker, this does not always work out…she encouraged 3 large, submissive dogs to help her knock a large box of treats off a counter, and then yelled at them when they tried to join her in eating them. It is probably best she live with more confident, laid back dogs.

Her foster mom has never personally had issues with bone aggression, but a laid-back friend of hers who firmly believes that Tot can do no wrong was bitten over a duck foot. Tot had snapped at her dog when it was just walking by her as she was chewing. My friend went to attempt to correct her and Tot snarled, snapped at her, and ran away with it. The minute her foster mom entered the room, Tot dropped the foot immediately and went right to her bed. She is a master of finding the "suckers" in the room and taking full advantage of them.

Tot is only partially housebroken. She was fully potty trained when she came into rescue but has regressed a bit during her heartworm steroid treatment. This has steadily improved since finishing her medications. In the meantime, she is being crated while she is alone. She has no issues being crated. She knows the following commands: sit, stay, come, and leave it. A fenced yard is preferred but not required. She does not need someone who can be home with her all day or a midday potty break but would love it.

Tater LOVES to chew…cow hooves, pig ears, bully sticks, Kongs filled with pumpkin, duck feet…she will chew them all! She is not really into toys, but she likes to wrestle and play chase with other dogs and humans. Tot also loves exploring the world! She walks well on a leash and has had a great time visiting the massive off-leash dog park and national parks close by on cool days. She also enjoys farmers markets, Lowes, dog-friendly patios, the office, playdates, and just riding in the car.

Tot would love to be in a home where she will be the center of attention for the remainder of her life. Daily cuddles, walks, bones, wipe downs, and adventures are ideal for this little girl, and her social personality makes her the perfect companion. It would be best for her to be in a home with older children since small children might be a little too rough with her. Tot only deserves the best and her foster mom wants her to live in a home that will give her just that.

Here are some silly things that Annie’s foster mom says she does:

“-When I get home, Tots does a full-body wiggle that makes my day. I look forward to it every single day.
-When you stop petting her and she is not ready for you to stop, she will walk on top of you and slap your hand until you start again.
-It took a while to convince Tot to sit and wait for her food, but she has gotten pretty good at it over that past few months. I can tell that it's a hard command for her because regardless of how long I make her wait, she drools all over the floor.
- Tot LOVES to pretend she is a big dog and carry around big dog bones. She and my GSD live to switch pig ears and bully sticks. Since I always cut Tot's in half and give my GSD a full bone, Tot will run around with an ear that is larger than her. She isn't allowed to chew it, but I let her prance around proudly with it for a while. It makes us laugh every time.”

There's just something about Tot. She makes her foster mom laugh even when she is being bad. It is heartbreaking to know that this little spitfire was more than likely not given the care or love for the first half of her life that she so clearly craves and deserves. After being used just for breeding for so long, this is her time to be a puppy and explore all the world has to offer with a family that will consider her a companion and beloved member of their pack.

Earlier this month we took in a 4-year-old male Frenchie, named Legend, who was not eating well, had diarrhea and was vomiting. It was thought that he had an infection from a dog bite and due to some significant life changes, his owner was not able to afford his care. His loving owner made the difficult decision to surrender Legend to the Village so that he could receive the care he needed.

Sadly, upon further investigation from the vet, it was found that Legend did not have an infection from a dog bite, but instead had Stage IV lymphoma. Hard lumps on his neck and under his chin, as well as in his legs, were found and tests confirmed that the cancer had spread to his organs. He was given meds to alleviate some of the pain and hospice care was provided by his foster family. He was given healthy meals, walks, playtime with his foster fur brother and lots of love and cuddles.

When his physical symptoms progressed and his pain worsened, the Village and his foster family made the difficult decision to allow Legend to cross over the Rainbow Bridge where he can now run free of cancer and pain.

Legend was a big boy weighing in at around 32 lbs and was so sweet, easy-going. He loved chew toys and bones. He really was one of a kind and so easy to fall in love with! He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. RIP dear Legend….you will never be forgotten.

Duke is a handsome 5-year-old who was surrendered to French Bulldog Village due to severe breathing issues as well as hind end weakness. He has had many surgeries to improve his breathing, yet he will always have a partially collapsed trachea that cannot be repaired. Duke’s partially collapsed trachea can make breathing more difficult for him than for the average dog. He must not get overheated or overexert himself as this will put strain on his breathing. Avoiding strenuous activity and being kept in a cool temperature setting is best to prevent his breathing from becoming too heavy.

The weakness in his hind end causes his back legs to sometimes slip out from under him, and he can’t handle stairs or furniture well on his own. His vet has said the weakness could be neurological and will need to be monitored throughout Duke’s life for any potential progression. He will also require a forever family who is willing to lift him on and off things and carry him as needed, especially when it comes to steps. He can slowly do one step at a time going up stairs but will not go down on his own.

Duke is a lazy, love bug! He wants nothing more than to lie on or near you being cuddled and pet. He does not need much exercise at all because of his breathing issues but enjoys chewing on bones and squeaky toys for entertainment. He walks on leash well and is crate trained; although, he would prefer not to be crated. Because he is good on a leash, he does not have a preference of whether his forever home has a fenced yard or not. However, he would prefer a stay at home parent or one who can provide him with a midday potty break. He has learned “sit” so far and is highly motivated by treats.

Duke tolerates other dogs but would truly be happiest as an only dog getting all the attention from his people. Duke has demonstrated mild food aggression in his foster home towards other dogs coming near him or his food and toys. He will growl if he thinks the other dogs are getting too close to what he believes to be HIS. If they continue to get closer, he will try and nip at them. He has not shown any aggression with humans and food, though. Other than the mild aggression described with dogs, Duke has been good around small, female dogs. However, he has not really been around large and male dogs except for those he has encountered at the vet’s office. He will go up to large/male dogs on leash and do fine, but he has not been around any off leash.

Duke can be stubborn about going to the bathroom outside. He likes to spend time looking around outside and sniffing the ground before he will get serious about going potty. He will need someone who is patient with him and will walk him around a little while, so he has time to go. When off leash (in a contained fence), he sometimes will want to come right back inside instead of taking time to potty. In that case, he needs some guidance, time, and commands to get him focused on going potty. He still has occasional accidents inside the house BUT will sometimes go on potty pads when he finds them.

He is absolutely the sweetest!! He lets you pick him up and hold him like a little baby in almost any position. He has such sweet eyes and has a little wart on the corner of his left eye with some hairs growing from it that make him look like he has long eyelashes...just adding to his cuteness when he looks at you! He clearly was uncomfortable for many years with the severity of his breathing issues. When he first came to his foster home, he moved very slowly, and every breath was a struggle. After his soft palate and nare surgeries, he is quite a different dog. While he still snores loudly when sleeping, you can tell he has more pep in his step and is much happier when awake.

Duke would do best in a laid-back home with individuals who will give him lots of love and patience. He needs a person(s) who wants a constant companion, because he loves to follow his person(s) from room to room just being pet and given love. If you are the person who will embrace this sweet, little soul and give him all the cuddles and treats he deserves, please apply!

Sullivan (aka Sully) is a sweet puppy who has had a rough start in life. He was surrendered to FBV a very sick boy. He came to the Village with an ulcerated cherry eye, dehydration with the need for fluids, 3 different parasites, a stark respiratory infection (with coughing and sniffling), anal gland infection, and bilateral ear infections. He also has bilateral luxation of his patellas and a Grade 2 heart murmur.

Sully has combated numerous parasites so far in his short life. He just recently contracted Giardia and was treated with a double course of medication. He likes to eat everything...worms, dirt, rocks, rabbit poo...anything he can put in his mouth. For this reason, he will need to be closely watched and have stool samples performed a couple times a year.

He is allergic to certain dog foods and treats (he is highly allergic to turkey and chicken). He eats a specific dehydrated raw diet called Vital Essentials- Duck (with a cost of almost $300 a month) and gets fruits and veggies as treats. He is on a probiotic and digestive enzymes and sees a holistic vet for acupuncture, vitamin B injections and herbs to help keep his GI tract healthy. Sullivan has a very sensitive stomach and has struggled with diarrhea since arriving in FBV's care. It has improved but could return at any time. It is likely that he will need to continue to receive his current food, supplements, and holistic vet visits for acupuncture, herbs and injections indefinitely in his forever home!!

He had cherry eye surgery while in foster care. Occasionally his eyes get dry and he needs drops. There is also the possibility that his cherry eyes could come back, and he may need surgery on his knees in the future. Sully has proven to be one of the costliest pups in the history of FBV with all his medical problems. While he has improved a lot with the amazing care of his vets and foster family, he still has numerous issues that will need to be managed in his forever home.

Sully is only partially housebroken...when he has to go, he has to go. He knows which door is for going outside to potty and will sit in front of it when he needs to go. However, if you don't let him out in a timely manner, he will go anywhere. He especially loves to potty on rugs! He will require a forever home with a fenced yard, as well as a stay at home parent, someone who can take him to work, or someone who can provide him with a midday potty break. He really would prefer to be with his person throughout the day so someone who stays home or can take him to work would be best. He has been going to work with his foster mom since the first day she had him in her care. Sullivan is crate trained (although he prefers not to be crated) and leash trained. He also knows the commands, "sit" and "come."

Sully would do best in a home with another dog as he loves to cuddle with his foster fur brother. He also will need a home with only older, dog savvy children. Sully has been allowed to sleep in bed with his foster parents and has been allowed on any chair and sofa in the house. He wants this definitely to continue in his forever home. He is one spoiled boy and needs for the spoiling to continue!

He has absolutely no temperament issues. He has a very happy personality especially now that he is healthier. He has so much more energy and is loving life! He loves playing with his foster brother and requires all the attention from his persons (if not, he will wiggle in between his foster brother and foster mom). He rarely barks unless the resident dog is getting into trouble. Then Sully barks at him to listen to mom (Sully is quite the enforcer, aka sheriff). He is a good sleeper and cuddler! He loves car rides and playing outside (he gets so excited to go outside that he will try to run through the screen!), as well as playing with his octagon toy with a tennis ball inside and his stuffed bee (these will keep him busy for hours!). His absolute favorite thing to do, though, is listen to K-pop. It was the only thing in the beginning that would help him fall asleep. His foster family tried every music under the sun, and he would not stop screaming. One day his foster human sister started playing K-pop, and he was out like a light.

Sullivan never really acted like a puppy until recently. With him feeling much better now, he can actually enjoy life. He is a great companion for dogs and humans. He is always happy to see his persons and follows them into every room (afraid he will miss something). When they come home from being gone, his little butt wiggles like a slinky...his butt actually touches his face when he wiggles! He has also become the mascot at his foster mom's work and greets every person who walks through the door. He is quite the cuddle bug!

Sully is such a sweet pup and deserves an amazing forever home. While he may be more expensive to care for than some other dogs, believe us when we say, "If you can afford his care, he will be worth every penny you spend!" He is truly one of a kind...and will steal your heart in a second!

Lilo is a beautiful brindle pup who was surrendered by her breeder. She has no ongoing health issues. She is leash and crate trained (although she would prefer not to be crated). However, she is only partially housebroken. She likes to spend a lot of time outside before using the bathroom. If you are in a rush and bring her back inside without giving her the time she needs, she will potty in the house.

When she first came into rescue, Lilo did not like anyone going near her bed or touching her toys. She was never fed with the resident dogs based on how she acted about “her things.” These behaviors have improved while in foster care. However, while she has shown improvement, Lilo will still require close monitoring of these behaviors in her forever home.

Lilo is very playful, super loving, and pretty darn smart (she already knows the commands “sit” and “come”). She loves toys and bones and enjoys nice long walks. While she is very active, she is also very laid back…this girl knows when it’s time to “chill” and lounge around on her bed. She enjoys playing with the resident dogs and can hold her own against them even though they are bigger (they are both large pit bulls). Lilo has a dominate personality and is definitely more of a leader than a follower. She can be bossy even with the bigger dogs in the house.

Lilo would love a home with other dogs as she really does love to play. However, she needs a forever home that has other dogs who will be okay with her being bossy. She would prefer a home with a fenced yard; although, this is not a requirement. She also will need someone who is home during the day with her or someone who can provide her with a midday potty break.

This sweet girl deserves a loving home that will give her all the love in the world and dedicate time just for her. She deserves to be looked at as a family member and not just a pet. She is very loving and will only bring joy and happiness to her forever family. She has her quirks (then again who doesn’t), but she is so worth it!

If Lilo sounds like the family member for you, please apply!

Mahoney was adopted from FBV by his wonderful family 7 years ago.

During the month of September 2018, Mahoney began having seizures which caused him to start losing control of his bowels and legs. His family took him to the vet to try and figure out what was going on, but being 13-years-old, there was not much they could do to help him through the issue. They tried some long-term seizure medication, but it made him unable to move very much or get out of bed. In the end, when he was unable to really enjoy his life anymore or do much of anything for a while, his loving family decided to take him again to the vet and let him go.

Here is what his forever daddy had to say about Mahoney: “I have never had a dog as special as Mahoney and I will never forget the impact he made on our life. He was so incredibly special to both me and my wife. You guys at French Bulldog Village made it possible for us to have the greatest dog ever. Thanks so much for giving us the opportunity to share in Mahoney’s life.”

Our deepest sympathies go out to Mahoney’s family.
May they find peace in their happy memories of this special little guy.

Cheeka and Kiya are a sweet couple of gals who are bonded and must be adopted together. They were surrendered to the Village when their previous owner/breeder went through a rough patch and was no longer able to care for them. These two love walks and toys, all toys...they are not picky…Kongs, squeaky toys, stuffies…you name it, they would take it! They will even go after the resident cat’s toys. They really love to snuggle and are good eaters, too!!!

Cheeka is relatively healthy other than some ongoing urinary issues. She is doing well about not going potty inside the house with routine but does still sometimes strain to urinate. She has been treated numerous times, but her issues are likely chronic. She may be a potential candidate for a vulvoplasty in the future. Kiya is also healthy but does have chronic allergies and skin issues. She is VERY allergic to fleas. She had a papilloma appear on her head which has taken some time to treat and is still in the process of healing.

Cheeka is a very playful girl. She loves to go for long walks and is very active for a middle-aged lady. Every morning, she and Kiya run around the house with the zoomies and jump into the dog beds, rolling around and throwing toys around. It is SO cute!!! Cheeka is a vocal girl and loves to bark with you! If you sing, she will sing right along with you. She is a good sharer and happy to laze around so long as there are toys. Cheeka loves food; she dances for her food and lets her foster mom know when it’s time for dinner. However, she loves nothing more than 1---Kiya and 2---toys.

Kiya is a lover. She wants to be in your lap…on the couch, in your bed, underneath you. She is a shadow, especially during dinner time. Most mornings, after her morning romp with Cheeka, she is found on the rug next to her foster momma as she gets ready for work. She too gets very excited for food and loves to hop to show her excitement. She also makes the funniest noises when she gets excited. Kiya is super playful. She gets the zoomies often and likes to jump at the other, bigger dogs’ faces to try to be the referee during playtime. She thinks she’s a big tough cookie with other pups, but at the end of the day she is still down to snuggle up with either them or her human depending on her mood. She loves to run around the yard and chase the other dogs as well. There are only 2 things that matter in her world: 1---Cheeka and 2---food falling from the cutting board as you prepare dinner. Well, maybe 3, if you include her human.

Sometimes Kiya and Cheeka can get a little snappy with each other if their bowls are too close to each other while they are eating. Cheeka also has defended a bone a couple times, but they are both doing well learning that these behaviors aren’t wanted. These behaviors will need to be monitored in their new home and addressed if displayed at any time by the girls.

Kiya is completely house trained. Cheeka, on the other hand, needs routine and will
go inside if not given multiple opportunities to go potty outside. Cheeka has been doing wonderfully lately, though, with not having accidents in the house. Both girls do great with routine and will whine to be let out.

The girls currently live with cats and other dogs. They are crate trained but prefer not to be crated if possible. Cheeka is leash trained. However, while Kiya is still learning not to pull on a leash, she understands the concept and follows Cheeka’s lead. They require a home with a fenced yard (as they absolutely love to run around) and prefer a home with someone who is home all day or someone who can ensure they have a mid-day potty break.

The ideal home for Cheeka and Kiya would be someone who has plenty of time to devote to them…someone who will exercise them, allow them to snuggle in their laps and spoil them. Both were so scared and unsocialized when they came into foster care. Now they are learning how to be around other dogs, how to go for walks, and how to be themselves! They are such a good representation of the French Bulldog breed in that they are so loving, playful, hilarious, and all around amazing.

Cheeka and Kiya truly love each other and this is why they must find a home together. It is very special to see dogs share their kind of bond. Cheeka and Kiya are such funny, spicy little chicken nuggets. They bring so much joy to everyday life and deserve the best home out there! If you are ready to bring two sweethearts into your life, please submit an adoption application for these lovely ladies!

Poncho and Susie are a bonded pair being fostered in the sunny state of Florida. Poncho is 10-years-old and Susie is 8. Poncho originally came into another rescue as a young dog. He was a Ukrainian import and lived with his owner for approximately 8 years until she passed. Susie was born in rescue when her pregnant mom was surrendered to another French Bulldog rescue. She was with her devoted owner for nearly all her life. After their owner passed away, Poncho and Susie stayed in another home for several months. However, this person surrendered them to French Bulldog Village when she realized that she was unable to give them the time that she knew they deserved.

They both have ongoing health issues given their ages. Poncho is in pretty good health for a senior dog. He occasionally suffers from allergy issues and has impaired vision. Susie also suffers from allergies typical of the breed. They seem to be environmental as her foster home has limited her food to beef products, carrots and apples. She receives a 25 mg Benadryl with breakfast and dinner and will usually take each pill with her kibble. If she doesn’t, her foster mom puts the pills in cheese. Zymox wipes and bi-monthly baths also seem to help her allergies. Susie is hearing impaired as well.

Susie is housebroken. She often goes to the back door to indicate she wants to go outside. Poncho, on the other hand, is only partially housebroken. Having him wear a belly band initially in his forever home would be a good idea until he gets used to his new routine. During his first week in his foster home, he went out usually once over night to potty but now he doesn’t wake until around 7:30 AM. He is the first one up in the morning and goes right outside to do his business.

Susie and Poncho are fed in their crates because Susie is a slow eater. They are also given frozen marrow bones in their crates because they are of high value until they are a little worn. Then they will share the bones with less guarding. There have only been a few scuffles between Susie and Poncho; however, they were mostly just posturing. Susie also has had a couple confrontations with the resident female hound, but this too was mostly posturing and stares. The resident dog tends to be the fun police when the dogs play, so foster mom removes her from these situations.

A fenced yard is required for these two. Both are crate trained and leash trained. They will need someone who is home all day with them or someone who works but can come home at lunch or have a pet sitter/dog walker come to allow the dogs a mid-day potty break. They enjoy walks and while they like to go on adventures, also are just as happy at home. They love having visitors to the house and happily greet them on each visit!! Their foster family has not had any young visitors to the home, but they think that these pups would prefer a home with adults only. Susie and Poncho are very bonded but would do well with other dogs in the house if those dogs do not mind having bones or toys occasionally stolen.

Poncho is very playful for his age. He and Susie will play chase and tug. Poncho loves stuffed toys, marrow bones and hooves. If you have been gone from home, he will excitedly greet you when you return. Poncho is very cuddly and a wonderful couch
potato when it’s TV time. He will lie down next to you as you read or do work. He is a great cuddler while on the sofa and loves to lie between your legs, in the crook of your legs or on top of your legs.

Susie gives one crazy "stink eye!!” That, partnered with her too big tongue, is the cutest thing ever. She will also burrow under covers or blankets and is either totally hidden or sticks her face out. She doesn't have to be right by you in the house and will often wander into another room to nap. She also has a lovely loud snore. She LOVES to give kisses and could staff a kissing booth all day long. She likes bones and hooves but usually only plays with stuffed toys if Poncho is playing with one.

Susie and Poncho are still very young at heart and deserve a family who will give them the attention they deserve. They are easy going and although a bonded pair, don’t always have to be by each other’s side. They would love a family that will appreciate who they are as individuals and as the attached pair they have become! If you think you can give these two cuties the
best life ever, please submit an application!
