Ramona is not yet ready for adoption. We are still evaluating her personality and addressing her medical needs. An email notification will be sent when she becomes ready for adoption. If you wish to receive the notification, please sign up for our mailing list at the top of the front page of our website. Adoption fees are set at the time a dog goes available, and applications can only be submitted at that time. Please follow our website and social media pages for updates on Ramona!

Please welcome Ramona to FBV!! She is about 3 years old and weighs 22.2 pounds. She’s well-muscled, physically healthy, and strong. She came with the name Ramona, which her foster mom loves because of Beverly Cleary’s book Ramona the Brave.

Emotionally, though, Ramona has her own battles. It’s clear she hasn’t spent much time indoors or being handled. She’s more at ease outside and prefers her personal space. She doesn’t trust humans yet and bolts the moment she’s put down. She barks at people to seem intimidating, but it’s really anxiety—her way of saying, “Please don’t hurt me.” She’s never once tried to bite, nip, or snap at people. She’s just scared.

Initially with other dogs, she was respectful but distant. She preferred a wide personal bubble and would politely but firmly tell others to back off if they get too close. Now she has zero personal space issues with the other dogs and can be found chilling next to them on the sofa.

Interestingly, she barks less when she’s part of a group, as if the spotlight makes her nervous. Her foster mom ignores the noise and keeps calmly interacting with her. Sometimes she picks her up, talks to her, and keeps her close until the panic fades.

Her weakness? Treats. Ramona is a total food hound. She never misses a meal and comes running for snacks. Every morning, she barks at her foster mom like she’s a stranger, but it fades quicker each day.

Her mission in her foster home: learn to trust the world.
