Meet Rubble — the 10‑year‑old sweetheart currently soaking up life in Connecticut, proving every single day that age is just a number and joy is a choice.
At 34 pounds, Rubble is that perfect “medium everything” kind of dog — easy to handle, easy to love, and wonderfully easy to live with. He’s a laid‑back, goofy, super‑smart boy who listens beautifully, knows sit, stay, down, and come, and walks on a leash like an absolute pro. He has a gentle, silly charm that makes everyone smile.
Personality & Home Life
Rubble is a moderately affectionate companion — he’ll happily let you hug and cuddle him, but he’s not the type to demand attention. What he does love is being near you, following you around the house, and giving you those sweet, gentle kisses when you bend down to his level. He gets excited when greeting people but won’t jump if ignored, and he’s super friendly with everyone.
He’s low to moderate energy: calm and relaxed when alone, but playful and social when other dogs are around. He enjoys prompting playtime, rolling on carpets to scratch his chest, and lounging outside. A yard would be a bonus, but not required. A short walk here and there is plenty to keep him happy.
He’s housebroken, doesn’t need frequent potty breaks, and will walk to the back door when he needs to go out. He may mark a bit during the first few days while adjusting to new dog smells. He likes his crate but doesn’t need it — he’s not destructive and doesn’t chew things he shouldn’t. He’ll bark in excitement when he sees you, but he’s not an excessive barker. He could do well in an apartment or condo as long as occasional excited barking at entrances isn’t an issue.
Social Skills
Rubble is a total goofball with dogs — friendly, respectful, and occasionally a little humpy at first, but he settles quickly. He’d thrive with a dog buddy, though it’s not required. He gets along with kids, but children over 7 would be best. His behavior with cats or small animals (gerbils, birds, etc.) is unknown.
He doesn’t mind baths or having his face, feet, or body touched. He’s both dominant and submissive when needed — a wonderfully balanced dog who reads the room well.
Health & Care
Rubble has a few medical notes, all well‑managed:
- Eyelid masses on one eye — cosmetic only, not irritating the eye surface.
- Severe dry eye in the other eye — he uses Tacrolimus ophthalmic ointment (compounded) to keep it comfortable.
- Lyme disease diagnosed in rescue — he was asymptomatic, completed antibiotics, and is doing great now.
- Possible chicken allergy — his previous owners reported this, so he currently eats a chicken‑free diet.
He doesn’t need someone home all day, but he does need someone who can check in every 4–6 hours.
Rubble’s Ideal Home
Rubble would love:
- A home with another dog (preferred but not required)
- Kids 7 years of age and older
- A yard to relax in (bonus, not mandatory)
- Someone who enjoys a calm, easy companion with bursts of playful silliness
- A family who can maintain his eye medication and chicken‑free diet
He doesn’t need a fenced yard, but it’s a plus. He doesn’t need constant attention, but he does need love, structure, and someone who appreciates his gentle, goofy spirit.
Why Rubble Is Special
Despite everything he’s been through, Rubble radiates sweetness. He has so much life, energy, and joy for a senior boy — you truly wouldn’t believe he’s 10. He’s the kind of dog who makes a home feel warmer just by being in it.
Rubble is ready for his next chapter — one filled with comfort, companionship, and a family who sees just how wonderful he is.
