BB is ready to find her furever home! She is 5 years old and was surrendered to FBV after her owner passed away. The owner’s family tried taking care of BB, but her allergy treatments were just too much for them.
BB is healthy other than her allergies. She came to the rescue with a rather extensive skin infection but with amazing care from her foster family and vets, she is doing much better. She just finished the last of her antibiotics for her skin infection.
She has been to the dermatologist and their recommendations have been very helpful in improving her skin. She takes Apoquel once a day, probiotics daily and receives medicated baths 1-2 times a week. Her new owners will need to remain very diligent to ensure her allergies remain controlled.
BB eats a prescription diet (Royal Canin HP) as food allergies are likely. The dermatologist said in the future she may benefit from allergy testing and an elimination diet trial. She is tolerant of all grooming and a great patient at the vet.
BB loves meeting new people and is not fearful at all. She will jump up at times, but she is very trainable. She also is good with kids but will need monitoring as she can be a bit rambunctious.
She gets along with other dogs (and loves to play with them) and made a quick transition into her foster home with the resident dog. Despite this, we still highly recommend slow introductions in her new home. She is very good pals with the resident dog but would likely do okay as an only dog too. We don’t know how BB would do with cats. However, she is definitely a no-go with small animals as she has shown some prey drive with squirrels, rabbits and birds while out on walks.
She has an amazing personality! She is very loving, super quiet (she would do well in an apartment or condo; she also is okay with stairs and elevators), and walks well on a leash (though will pull a little when seeing other dogs and small animals). With enough exercise, she will veg out on the couch or bed. Currently, she goes on 3 walks a day, totaling 1.5 miles a day. BB is also 100% house trained in her foster home.
Since BB is good on a leash, she does not require a fenced yard. She is also content in her crate and at feeding time, will race to it on her own, knowing that she is going to be fed in it (this is how all dogs are fed in her foster home). BB loves chewing on Benebones and Nylabones.
She has no separation issues but does prefer to be cuddling with her person and/or another dog. She does not need a person who is home all the time with her and will do fine in a home with someone who works outside the house.
Here are a few things her foster dad finds very endearing:
- When BB is excited, she prances like a horse doing high step at an equestrian.
- She will also do a whirling dervish dance in anticipation of her food bowl.
- She will power snuggle at the end of a hard day.
BB is a model citizen and one of the easiest dogs her foster family has fostered in terms of temperament. She is so sweet, gentle and easy going! She can succeed in almost any home situation but will need a firm commitment from her new family to keep up with her allergy treatments and prescription food.
If you sound like her person, please apply!
