Meet Buddy — the little lovebug who has decided that the world is best experienced from a warm lap, a cozy dog bed, or tucked right up against his favorite person. At 3 years old and 22 lbs, Buddy is a compact bundle of sweetness, silliness, and pure mushy affection.

Buddy didn’t have the easiest start. A humane shelter rescued him from a difficult situation where painful mouth ulcers left him not wanting to eat. They reached out to the rescue to make sure he’d get the best chance at a happy, healthy future — and Buddy has embraced that chance with his whole heart. His tongue ulcers have healed, and his corneal ulcer resolved completely with treatment. Today, he’s thriving, grateful, and ready for love.

Personality

Buddy is a love. Truly. His favorite thing in the world is to sit next to you — or on you — and soak up scratches. Hand or foot, he doesn’t discriminate. He’ll rub his face against you to ask for more pets, and he’ll fall asleep absolutely anywhere as long as he feels safe and close to his people.

He’s pretty low‑key, with adorable bursts of energy when it’s time to play, get scratches, or — his favorite — eat. Buddy is a huge piggy and gets very excited for meals. Because he’ll inhale food too quickly, he needs his kibble soaked and served in a slow feeder or offered in smaller, more frequent meals. If he eats too fast, he may throw it back up, so keeping mealtimes paced is important.

Care Needs

Buddy has very deep facial folds and a tail pocket that will require consistent cleaning. He tolerates his face wipes, tush cleaning, baths, eye drops, and ear care beautifully. He may occasionally lick at his paws. He’s a cooperative little guy who just wants to be loved through it all.

Behavior & Training

Buddy is crate trained, housebroken, and only had a couple of marking incidents early on. He does well in the car — a little anxious at first, but he settles. He’s quiet overall and really only barks when he knows food is coming. If he’s behind a gate and his people are on the other side, he may whine briefly but calms quickly.

He walks nicely on leash with minimal pulling and knows sit, leave it, and come. A fenced yard is not required. He’d do wonderfully in an apartment or condo.

With Other Animals

Buddy is good with other dogs — he’s pretty indifferent, enjoys their company, but ultimately prefers a human lap over canine playtime. He’s impartial to cats and small animals like gerbils or hamsters. Birds are an unknown. He’s good with kids, though during mealtimes he gets excited and may jump, so small children should be supervised then.

Ideal Home

Buddy doesn’t need someone home all day. What he does need is a loving family willing to give him:

  • Regular facial fold and tail pocket cleaning
  • Soaked, slowed meals
  • Plenty of scratches
  • A lap or cozy spot to snuggle
  • A little extra time in the beginning as he continues to gain weight

He enjoys the company of other animals, loves chew toys and stuffed toys, and adores being close to his people.

The Heart of Buddy

Buddy is the kind of dog who warms your heart the moment you meet him. He’s gentle, grateful, affectionate, and impossibly sweet — a big mush who just wants to love and be loved. He’s ready for his forever family, and whoever brings him home is going to feel lucky every single day.
