At 4 years old and 26 pounds, Draco (Drake) is a joyful, confident, toy‑obsessed little Frenchie who radiates happiness everywhere he goes. Though life has handed him challenges, he meets every single one with determination, sweetness, and a spirit that never dims. Drake is living proof that a dog’s heart matters far more than the number of legs he uses.

His Story & Medical Needs

Drake came to FBV after becoming paralyzed in his hind end, and his former family could no longer meet his care needs. Despite his disability, Drake is otherwise a healthy dog who lives a full, active, and deeply happy life.

He uses a wheelchair for mobility and a scoot sack inside the home. He is incontinent, but he can hold his bladder and bowels and thrives on a consistent bathroom schedule that has reduced accidents to almost none. His bladder is manually expressed (easily done while he’s in his chair), and his bowel movements occur on a predictable routine—approximately 6am, 10:30am, and 4pm daily. He typically urinates every 6 hours, though he can go up to 8 hours if needed. For his long‑term health, he should urinate 3–4 times per day. He can wear diapers if necessary.

Drake also receives physio for wheelchair fitting and massage, and he benefits from upper‑body massages every few days to keep him strong. He takes three supplements—one for urinary health, one for joint support, and fish oil for skin and coat. He eats Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach (Salmon & Rice) and has no known allergies.

He does require help being lifted into his wheelchair and carried up or down stairs, but he is expected to live a long, happy life with proper care.

Temperament & Personality

Drake is a very confident, friendly, happy little man who refuses to let his disability slow him down. He is social, curious, and full of personality. He loves meeting new people and is always friendly—though he may do a little excited pee if he hasn’t gone recently. He has no history of aggression, no resource guarding, and has shown excellent behavior with other dogs, including living peacefully with a reactive sibling. He stands his ground when needed but is never confrontational.

He is a medium‑affection dog—he likes to be near his people, follows them from room to room, and always comes when called for love. He enjoys cuddling with his foster mom on the couch and relaxing in bed with his sisters at night. He is independent but also deeply connected; if he gets stuck somewhere, he will call out because he doesn’t want to be alone.

Drake is smart, food‑motivated, and wonderfully expressive. He “talks” when he wants something, does a joyful hop‑dance in his wheelchair, rolls on his back with his legs swinging when he’s happy, and gives a kiss every morning when he’s carried downstairs. He snores adorably, has impressively loud farts, and squeaks his toys with unmatched enthusiasm.

Daily Life & Activities

Drake is a delightful mix of couch potato and playful adventurer. He loves:

  • Squeaky toys (his absolute passion—he’ll carry and squeak them nonstop)
  • Walks around the neighborhood
  • Sunbathing
  • Snoozing in his cuddle bed
  • Backyard time and “gardening” (which is really just eating grass)
  • Car rides and outings
  • Being part of the pack

He enjoys playing with his sisters but prefers his own toys. He fits beautifully into a multi‑dog home and would thrive with a friendly sibling.

He loves his crate, sees it as his safe space, and will often ask to go inside on his own. His crate setup will go with him to his new home.

Home Requirements

Drake would do well in almost any home, but he thrives best in spaces with minimal obstacles. Because he cannot do stairs, single‑floor living is ideal, and he will need to be carried if stairs are unavoidable. He would do well in a condo or apartment.

He does not require someone home all day, but he does need someone who can maintain his bathroom schedule and provide supervision—he has tipped over in his chair before and occasionally gets stuck.

He is likely fine with dog‑savvy children, though he may accidentally roll over a toe or hit a shin with his wheelchair (the wheels are soft!).

Why Drake Is Extraordinary

Drake is one of those rare dogs whose joy is contagious. He is silly, sweet, affectionate, confident, and endlessly resilient. He greets life with enthusiasm—whether it’s a walk, a toy, a treat, or simply seeing his people come home. He is not “less than” because of his disability; he is simply a dog who happens to use wheels, and he lives life just as fully as any four‑legged friend.

Once you settle into a routine with him, he is not much more work than any other dog—he just comes with a bit of extra equipment and a whole lot of heart.

The Home He Deserves

Drake deserves a family who will let him be the center of attention, shower him with love, and include him in adventures. He deserves people who will celebrate his spirit, laugh at his antics, admire his courage, and give him the chance to live the joyful, active life he loves.

He is, quite simply, a perfect little dog—sweet, silly, loving, friendly, and full of life.
