Draco in North Carolina

Draco is not yet ready for adoption. We are still evaluating his personality and addressing his medical needs. An email notification will be sent when he becomes ready for adoption. If you wish to receive the notification, please sign up for our mailing list at the top of the front page of our website. Adoption fees are set at the time a dog goes available, and applications can only be submitted at that time. Please follow our website and social media pages for updates on Draco!

Meet Draco — the unbreakable little warrior whose spirit refuses to stay down, even when his body has tried its hardest to slow him.

At just 3 years old and 28 pounds, Draco has already lived through more than most dogs ever will. Three months ago, he went down in the back end, and despite vet care, medications, and strict crate rest, he has not regained the ability to stand or walk. He also has no control of his bladder and bowels. By the time he reached rescue, he also had significant wounds on his back feet from dragging himself.

And yet… this boy arrived smiling.

The Heart of Draco

Draco is pure sunshine wrapped in a body that’s been through a storm. He loves people with his whole being, melts into affection, and greets every moment with a quiet, gentle joy. He adores his crate, stays calm and peaceful, and seems to get along beautifully with other dogs. His foster mom says he radiates gratitude — the kind of dog who looks at you like you hung the moon.

He may not be able to walk, but he is absolutely full of life.

His Medical Journey

Draco’s previous owner tried to help him, but his condition never improved. Because he cannot empty his bladder or bowels on his own, his foster mom is expressing his bladder and stimulating his bowels numerous times a day — and Draco takes it all in stride.

He arrived with a wheelchair, but it’s far too small for him, so he’ll need a properly fitted one to help him zoom around the way he deserves.

He has already been to the vet for a full checkup, vaccines, and treatment for hookworms, and he will soon be seeing a neurologist to determine whether there is any chance of regaining some function in his legs. We don’t know what the future holds, but we do know this: Draco isn’t giving up.

A New Chapter

For now, Draco is resting safely in a temporary foster home in North Carolina, soaking up love and care while he prepares for a longer‑term foster placement in Canada. His journey is far from simple, and he will one day need a very special adopter — someone patient, committed, and ready to love a dog who needs help with his daily care.

But Draco is worth every bit of it.

He is joy. He is resilience. He is hope in a wiggly, smiling, determined little body.

And he is finally safe.
