Francine is ready to take on the task of finding her forever home! She is a 1.5-year-old, 30-pound gal who originally came from a backyard breeder. She had been kept in a pen the majority of her young life and was only taken out a couple times a day. A good Samaritan rescued her but had a hard time managing Francine’s house training, so she surrendered Francine to FBV.
Francine wins people over very quickly with her amazing personality. She is so loving and does all she can to please her people. She is very attentive to her person and never in a bad mood! She is very fun to be around and has yet to meet someone she doesn’t like.
She is healthy and has shown no resource guarding with humans or other animals. Francine gets along well with children, cats and other dogs. She loves meeting new people and is extremely friendly and outgoing. She will stand up on her back feet for pets from people she meets. She is also extremely social with both male and female dogs. She loves hanging and playing with doggy friends. She takes direction very well from other dogs. If she's being too playful and another dog gives her a warning grumble or bark, she disengages.
When Francine's energy isn't channeled, she can tend to be very busy and restless in the house. She currently does pack hikes daily for 2-4 miles with anywhere from 8-10 different dogs. She really enjoys it and waits by the door every morning to head out on her adventures. She pays attention to her handler extremely well and has mastered her recall skills and the command to “sit.” Once she's been sufficiently worn out, she can be a couch potato.
She is great with baths, face fold cleaning and other grooming. She is okay on a leash, tends to walk slower and hesitantly while on it but gets the job done. She can be crated and is quiet in her crate but cannot have blankets or a bed or she will pee on them. She will also pee on the pee pads in her crate, if kept in overnight.
Francine has made some progress in her foster home with house training. However, she can still be very inconsistent at times and may never be reliably housebroken. She cannot hold it in her kennel for more than 3-4 hours, and sometimes that time frame can be shorter.
Francine will require her person to manage her water intake. She tends to over drink at times, which contributes to accidents in the house. Her water gets picked up 30 mins to an hour before bedtime to better manage overnight pee accidents. Her foster family has experimented with a lot of different things to see about getting her through the night without bathroom accidents. They find that if Francine sleeps in bed with someone, she has been able to hold it all night and does not get up to go out in the middle of the night. She has to go out to potty right before bed and requires early rising for bathroom time in the AM. Francine also requires someone to go outside with her and tell her to "go potty.” Her adopter will have to ensure that she does indeed go to the bathroom. If she is not monitored appropriately, she will come in from outside and pee on the floor. She does not poop inside the house, and she does not go to the bathroom on furniture.
Because of Francine’s house training issues, a house with a fenced yard is best. She also is the cutest when she lounges in the sunny spots of the yard and loves to chase the resident dogs around the yard. She will need an adopter who is home more than they are gone to continue working with her on her housebreaking.
Francine likes all kinds of toys, stuffed toys, chew toys…you name it! She rides great in the car. She also loves to be snuggled and to sleep in bed and on the couch. She has the goofiest sleeping positions!
Francine will need her new family to be very involved with her each day, giving her lots of time and attention, as she is now accustomed to being pretty spoiled. She has an absolutely fantastic personality and is very goofy. She's very happy-go-lucky. She loves to be involved with everything and loves, loves, loves affection. She is truly a Velcro dog, following you all around the house. She also loves to be held like a baby.
If you are someone who doesn’t leave home very much and have the time and patience to handle Francine’s potty habits, please apply! You won’t find a more loving and devoted girl!
