Our handsome boy, Gizzy, is ready to find his perfect forever home! Could it be yours? Keep reading to find out.
Gizzy is a handsome 5-year-old boy who absolutely LOVES people! He is such a sweetheart and follows his people everywhere. He also loves car rides, Benebones and elk antlers..and enjoys pouncing on his foster mom’s dryer balls when they drop out of the clothes dryer. He is tolerant of grooming as well, which is a huge bonus!
He likes other dogs but would do best with other dogs who are more docile. Male dogs would also be better than females. Gizzy tends to show dominance and resource guarding toward other dogs around food and his ‘bedroom’ (the gated laundry room in his foster home). He has mild resource guarding over his people as well. However, his resource guarding has improved, and his foster family feels strongly it will continue to improve.
Gizzy has graduated from sleeping in his own bedroom at night to sleeping in his foster family’s bed, which he wouldn’t mind continuing in his forever home. He also would prefer a fenced yard as he still isn’t the greatest on a leash. And apartment/condo living may not be best as Gizzy does bark when he hears unfamiliar sounds.
Upon coming into rescue, Gizzy had a good cleaning of his teeth and 10 rotten teeth removed. He also had a hernia repaired. It was found that he has severe dry eye as well and gets eye drops (Tacrolimus) twice a day.
He has regurgitation issues for which he currently takes medications (Cisipridem, Metocloprimide and Omeprazole) and eats a specific diet (Pure Balance wet food and Forza10 digestive help wet food). However, his regurgitating has improved greatly, and his foster family is hopeful that by following just lifestyle changes (smaller more frequent meals, limiting his access to toys that overly excite him, and smaller amounts of water at a time), his meds will be able to be weaned.
Gizzy would likely do okay in a home with cats if the cats are dog savvy. He has met cats at the vet office and had no reaction to them. A home with small critters would also be okay but only if the critters are kept caged/contained. Children in his forever home must be older and dog savvy as Gizzy will jump up on people and does nibble at hands.
He is a quick study! He loves being rewarded for learning new things with praise and hugs. He is good at going potty outside and will even indicate when he has to go. His foster family currently takes him outside every couple hours and after he eats when they are home but when they are gone and he is gated in the laundry room, he has no accidents.
Gizzy’s ideal home would be one where someone is home often with him (however, a midday potty break would work too). He would do best in a quiet home and does not need another dog in the home. He would be more than happy being an only dog but if there is another resident dog, a calm, male dog would be best.
He is the sweetest love bug who deserves the most amazing forever home! Welcoming this little Gremlin, as his vet techs call him, into your life will surely make you one lucky person. Make sure to apply today if Gizzy sounds like the dog for you!
