Hello! My name is Jigs. As my name suggests, my history is a little bit of a puzzle. Here is what I do know for sure. I weigh 40 pounds! I am about 4.5 years old. I am a mix of numerous breeds per the DNA testing my foster home had completed (I am 39% Frenchie) and someone sadly cropped my ears at some point. I'm chipped, neutered and HOUSEBROKEN!
We have been able to put some of the puzzle pieces into place:
Piece #1: I came from a shelter so no one REALLLLLY knows much about my history. I was scared, in an unfamiliar environment and I didn't know how to handle it all. I was a little too much for my first foster home, so I moved to Florida to work on my behavior issues more with my current foster home.
Piece #2: Under ZERO circumstances can I be put into a crate or any structure that has chain link metal. Crates are never going to work…I am destructive if put inside one and will harm myself! This is a huge piece that got filled in. Whatever happened to me before I came to the rescue clearly was not good and I developed pretty bad anxiety. I will need a home with a fenced yard and one that is not chain link. I really love a kiddy pool! It is sooo much fun! If you could put one in the yard for me, that would be awesome!
Piece #3: It was discovered that putting me on Prozac (for my anxiety) and Benadryl (to help keep me calm) has been a game changer. I WILL NEED TO BE ON THESE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. My foster home worked with a professional dog trainer when I first came to them and still have 2 prepaid sessions left. The trainer has offered to whoever adopts me these sessions as two 1-hour virtual training sessions to help transition me into my new home.
Piece #4: With the proper medication, I have turned into a couch potato and realized that I love to be loved on. It's really cool! The couch is my preferred location when my humans are doing yard work or what-not!
Piece #5: I growl to communicate. If I am in the car and a stranger walks by and I think they're too close, I will "growl.” I am easily redirected though. This may be something from my past also. If I need something, I will let you know with a growl too. My growls sound different depending on the circumstance.
Piece #6: I love riding in the car and in a utility vehicle, clipped in for safety in case I see a deer or something. You can't trust deer.
Piece #7: I jump on humans to say hello! Now that I know what love is, I try spreading the joy to all I meet. Sometimes I get carried away a little, but I mean well.
Piece #8: I'm healthy but have a history of a benign rectal polyp that needed to be removed. I will need to have a rectal examination with each and every yearly exam I have. The tumor was benign, but it did have some markers that indicated that this is something that needs to be watched.
Piece #9: I am tolerant of having my ears cleaned, and I love water, but I will still need to be eased into being shampooed and scrubbed as sometimes I really am just not in the mood. I get my nails trimmed at the vet as I don’t love my feet being touched/handled. I also don’t really love my private parts being dried after a bath.
Piece #10: Because I am so vocal, I will not do well in an apartment. I am good on a leash, though.
Piece #11: I like other dogs, people and nibbling on my stuffy. I would prefer a home where I am the only pet as I am an attention hog. However, I would be okay in a home with other calm dogs. I also would be okay with house cats that are calm but outdoor cats running around will lead to a chase.
Piece #12: I have met children before but if placed in a home with them, it would be best that the kids be teenagers and dog savvy.
Piece #13: I am not a morning dog. I don’t wake in the AM until prompted or forced to do so. I would much rather just cuddle in bed until I decide it is time to get up.
Piece #14: I would do well in a home with someone who works from home or at least someone who is able to come visit with me sometime during their workday.
Piece #15: I’m really blossoming in my foster home because they've been patient with my "quirks.” I will need a calm, dog-savvy home and one where patience with me will continue. Hey, I want us both to succeed. I am making progress from my past life, but I will still need a steady hand (or paw) to hold as I continue my journey of getting over my past!
I can't wait to meet you! Now, I’ve got to get back to playing and showcasing my zoomie skills and then how well I have mastered the craft of couch napping!
