Koda is a 14-month-old pup with a heart full of love and legs built for zoomies. Weighing in at 26 pounds, he’s the perfect size for snuggling on the couch—but don’t be fooled, this little guy has energy to spare. Koda came to rescue after his previous owner, juggling multiple jobs, had to keep him crated for long hours. Now, he’s making up for lost time with play, affection, and a whole lot of ball chasing.
This sweet boy is healthy overall, with just one manageable issue: he takes Apoquel for environmental allergies that cause itchy skin. He has no food allergies and doesn’t require a special diet. Koda is crate trained and does well when left alone, though he’d love a home where he doesn’t spend too much time in one—he’s had enough of that in his early life.
Koda is a social butterfly who gets along beautifully with men, women, and children. Because he’s still a puppy with lots of energy, kids over 8 years old are recommended—Koda’s still learning not to jump and can get a little carried away during playtime. He’s also great with dogs of all sizes and has learned to coexist peacefully with cats, though it took him a little time to understand that they don’t enjoy being chased.
Koda’s playful spirit and curious nature really shine on walks—especially when he spots a squirrel. He’s incredibly eager to chase anything that scurries by, and he puts all 26 pounds of determination into the pursuit. While he’s learned to respect the boundaries of indoor cats, his enthusiasm for chasing makes him a bit too interested in small, fast-moving animals. For that reason, he needs a home without tiny critters like hamsters or gerbils, as he might find them a little too tempting.
Walks are one of Koda’s favorite activities, and while he’s still learning leash manners, he’s enthusiastic and joyful about every outing. After about a mile, he settles into a calmer rhythm and is happy to trot alongside you. A fenced yard would be a dream come true for him, especially one with room to run. He currently lives in a house with a small yard, and while frequent walks help, he’d thrive with more space to stretch his legs.
Koda’s personality is a delightful mix of playful and affectionate. He adores toys—especially anything with a squeaker—and will happily chase balls for as long as you’re willing to throw them. After burning off his energy, he transforms into a cuddly shadow, following his human from room to room and curling up with his foster Frenchie sister for a nap. He’s incredibly tolerant of grooming, shows no resource guarding, and is a great car rider (though he might need a little help getting in).
He’s doing well with housebreaking and rarely has accidents when kept on a schedule. He doesn’t yet notify when he needs to go out, so consistency is key. Koda loves meeting new people and wants to be everyone’s best friend, though his excitement sometimes leads to jumping—something he’s working on with his foster family.
One thing to note: Koda’s bark is loud. Really loud. He mostly uses it when he wants to play with resident pets, and while he doesn’t bark at passersby or while crated, his playtime bark can be ear-splitting. Because of this, apartment or condo living isn’t a good fit for him.
The ideal home for Koda would be one with other playful dogs, a fenced yard, and an active family who can help him burn off his puppy energy. He’s a smart, loving boy who wants to please and will be a loyal companion for many years to come. Be ready to throw the ball, go on adventures, and soak up all the cuddles—Koda is ready to give his whole heart to the right family.
If you’re looking for a best friend who’s equal parts fun and affection, Koda is waiting to meet you.
