We have some wonderful news. Loki is ready to find his forever home! This sweet boy is 1 year old and weighs 27 lbs. He is a total goofball and mischief maker. He does well in cars. He will follow you around the house, loves to play, and is a ball of energy. His foster family keeps this energetic boy entertained and tired with a flirt pole and enrichment toys. He loves his KONG and throwing it around to get the food out of it. He also really enjoys playing fetch and chewing on bones.

Loki is potty trained but will have accidents in the house if not let out frequently. He will bark or scratch at the door when he needs to go out so will need someone to be aware of these signals. He does okay in his crate but will bark or whine if left in it for an extended amount of time or if he needs to potty. He also will bark if a gate is used, and he is separated from people or dogs. Confinement is necessary for him if unsupervised, though, as he gets into EVERYTHING within reach and will surf low tables for things he shouldn’t have.

Due to this barking and reactivity to other dogs on walks, apartment/condo living would not be ideal for Loki. A fenced yard is also preferred due to his reactiveness to other dogs. Loki does okay on a leash until he spots something that he wants to get to, then will bark and pull. He likely will continue to improve in these areas with continued training and desensitization. He has been receiving professional training while in foster care, and it is strongly recommended that training be continued in his forever home. He already has learned the following commands: sit, down, fetch and come. What a smart boy!!! He does well with grooming too!

Loki has shown no resource guarding with people or other dogs. He is very rambunctious, loud, and rough when meeting other dogs. He just does not seem to pick up on other dogs’ cues that well. However, another dog in the home would be great to help him learn. It just needs to be a dog that is very tolerant, patient and not scared by his rambunctiousness. Slow introductions with other pets will be absolutely necessary when he moves into his forever home.

It is felt he would not do well in a home with small animals as he loves to chase his flirt pole and bugs. He also would do best in a home with older, dog savvy children given his exuberance and his love for finding things on the floor, including kid toys, that he should not have.

Loki suffers from allergies, deafness, pyloric stenosis (a condition where the pyloris — the passage from the stomach to the small intestine — becomes narrowed) and the beginning stages of cataracts. He will continue to need to see an ophthalmologist and possibly a dermatologist once adopted. His allergies are currently controlled by Apoquel and prescription food (Purina Veterinary Diets HA). His pyloric stenosis is managed by soaking his food, providing smaller more frequent meals (3-4 times a day in a slow feeder or food frozen in a KONG or lick mat), and consuming his prescription food.

Loki would do best in a home with someone who is home frequently to allow for frequent potty breaks and meals. Someone with dog training experience would also be preferable. Loki can get stressed and over stimulated in new situations, so he will need reassurance from his owners that things will be all right.

Loki is a sweet, silly boy who is also pretty smart and has been catching onto things in training quickly. He has battled his medical challenges like a champ and now is a happy-go-lucky fella with them managed well. He deserves to find a home that can dote on him and provide him with the structure and training he needs to flourish.
