Maui in California
Maui is not yet ready for adoption. We are still evaluating his personality and addressing his medical needs. An email notification will be sent when he becomes ready for adoption. If you wish to receive the notification, please sign up for our mailing list at the top of the front page of our website. Adoption fees are set at the time a dog goes available and applications can only be submitted at that time. Please follow our website and social media pages for updates on Maui!
Please welcome Maui to FBV!! Maui is a svelte 21 lbs and 4 yrs 10 mo. He has the absolute BEST crooked front teeth. He's equal parts goofball, lover, and protector. He loves to roll around on his back, get pets on his head or belly, and follow his humans around the house. He has an adorable head tilt, and he barks very little.
He’s been to the vet and some things the vet did he did not like having done, such as drawing blood, looking in his ears and trimming his nails. He’s probably had chronic ear infections, and one ear has signs of a previous hematoma. He’s up to date on his vaccinations and will be having his neuter this week. He has only one descended testicle (called cryptorchidism) so his neuter will be a bit more complex than normal.
Maui walks well on a leash but occasionally starts a staring contest with a dog walking on the opposite side of the street. His foster family has been cautious out on walks so far as they are still trying to figure out what makes him happy to say hi to another dog and what causes him to lunge at them. He travels well in the car and seems to like his travel crate. He is always excited when his harness is pulled out, either for a walk or a car ride.
He can be a lot at times with his energy and male Frenchie vibe, but he responds well to his name and has done fine with the two resident female dogs. However, the resident Frenchie is not a fan of his, though. She has barked at him a few times to tell him to stop getting in her face, and he has backed off. He has run around with the girls a bit but usually breaks from the running when he spots a toy. He LOVES toys and has already sent three toys to the “to be repaired” bin. He can empty a toy basket faster than most dogs.
He's a bit picky with food and treats but loves his salmon skin food topper and his cricket treats. He sleeps in a crate but does get to enjoy lazy mornings on the bed and evenings watching TV on the sofa with the humans and other two dogs.
His foster family is still evaluating his bathroom habits. He will take care of business on his walks but has also had accidents overnight. He has not had any accidents during the day, though.
He has not shown interest in cats, squirrels, or birds out on walks. He also met his first dog savvy child (~6 or 7 years old) and was good, letting the boy pet him gently but more interactions will be needed to say for sure how he will do in a home with young children.
