Meet Miss Mayzie!
At 7 years old, this beautiful blue brindle gal has already shown us what resilience looks like. Miss Mayzie came to rescue after her previous family realized they couldn’t meet her care needs. Her insatiable thirst led to frequent accidents, and sadly, she spent much of her time crated—causing weakness in her hind end and dehydration.
But Mayzie’s story is already turning a corner. In just the little time she has been with her foster mom, she’s begun to look brighter, feel stronger, and show off her sweet, easy-going personality. She’s gentle, well-behaved, and has been wonderful with people and polite with other dogs. She even handled her very first bath in foster care like a champ!
Mayzie’s medical journey is still unfolding. Her initial vet visit suggested a possible UTI, and her bloodwork revealed some abnormalities. The results so far show that her liver function is abnormal, and her gallbladder needs further evaluation, so an abdominal ultrasound has been recommended. Her thyroid levels came back low, and her vet has advised a repeat test (after medication is started) at her next follow up appointment. Her white blood cell count was also elevated, which may point to infection or inflammation; pending fecal and urinalysis results will help determine if this is due to a UTI or another cause. Through it all, she remains under close veterinary care to ensure she receives the support she needs.
Her past records also note a history of a dislocated hip (treated two years ago), a heart murmur, hypothyroidism, and most recently, the removal of one eye due to a ruptured ulcer. Despite all of this, she remains a loving, steady soul who simply wants to be cared for and cherished.
Miss Mayzie’s journey is still very much in progress. With ongoing medical evaluations and treatments ahead, she is not yet ready to search for her forever home. Right now, her focus is on healing, gaining strength, and receiving the veterinary care she needs. In foster care, she is surrounded by patience and love, giving her the chance to rest, recover, and continue showing us the gentle, resilient spirit she carries.
