Mickey in Maryland– ADOPTED!!
It is with pure happiness that we announce that Mickey has been adopted by his foster family. This was a hard decision for the Village to make; however, we feel that he is in the BEST place. Mickey came into our care not only as a deaf dog but as a high anxiety dog. He has been a very tough case, because he has a fear of humans and he chooses people at random that he doesn’t like. Mickey has a bite history and continues to bite in response to his fear of humans. With this being said, he has bonded with his foster family (dogs included) trusting them to handle his care and quirks. It has been a long tough road for all of them to gain this trust in each other. With his bite history, being deaf, and other anxiety issues, we do not feel that we could put him through another home change and ask our adopters to take on the risk of his behavioral issues. When we bring in dogs like Mickey, we see a chance to rehab them and give them the life they deserve, but in some rare cases the foster home that chooses to take on a dog like this ends up being the best place for the dog. We are proud to have volunteers like Mickey’s foster mom and dad who choose to take a chance on a dog as severe as Mickey. We are the Village, but we are only as good as our volunteers. We are proud to have Mickey officially join his furever family! We look forward to seeing him in future updates!
Mickey is a 2.5-year-old male Frenchie who is being fostered in Maryland. Mickey came to us from a shelter, neutered and underweight. However, he has already gained 3 pounds while in foster care. Mickey is deaf, but his foster family has been working with him on learning hand signals. He already knows come and sit!!
He does not do well with children and has major trust issues with humans. He seems to attach himself to one human and at times will show fear aggression with other humans. His foster home is working with a behaviorist to help Mickey begin to trust again. This will be a slow process, but Mickey is showing positive signs in his foster home.
Mickey is a smart boy and gets along well with the resident dogs. We are very grateful to his wonderful foster home for providing the love and patience this boy needs. Mickey is not yet ready for adoption, but please follow our website and social media pages for updates! You can also subscribe to our mailing list to receive an email when he becomes available for adoption.
