Hello everyone! It is me, Pancho! I am here to tell you that I am ready for adoption. I am 3 years old, weigh 23 lbs and am neutered. I was surrendered to FBV when a child in my previous family was becoming increasingly allergic to me.
I am tolerant of grooming, crate trained and housebroken. I go out several times a day to potty and sleep through the night without incident. I am good on a leash but will pull some if I see squirrels, rabbits, birds, or other dogs. Mostly though I just trot alongside my person. I also do well in the car but have occasionally gotten car sick on longer rides.
I do have some health issues. I suffer from mild allergies that are helped by taking Apoquel. I also take Prilosec (which may be needed long-term) to control regurgitation issues. You see when I came into the rescue, I was regurgitating terribly; any little upset would cause me to throw up. I had an x-ray performed that revealed I had a hiatal hernia and the surgeon I saw recommended surgical repair. I ended up having the hernia repair as well as airway (nares and palate) surgery. The surgeries were very successful and have really changed my life for the better.
I currently eat Royal Canin Gastrointestinal which I may or may not need forever as my allergies seem possibly not related to food. I also eat from an elevated feeder, but this also may not be necessary now that my hernia is repaired. My feeder is kind of cool, though, so I don’t mind still using it.
I am kind of the boss and would not do well with other bossy dogs in the house. I would most easily adjust to a forever home with no other dogs. However, I could also get along with doggie siblings who are mellow and calm. I will do much better, too, being introduced slowly to any resident dogs. I do not guard my food from handlers. However, I am fed separately from the resident dogs. I do not do well with small animals, including cats, due to prey drive.
I could probably do okay living in an apartment or condo. I can be reactive to some dogs but am not vocal to them. I also do well with stairs and elevators shouldn’t be a problem for me.
A fenced yard is not essential as I have almost exclusively been leash-walked in my foster home. I enjoy my daily walks and go on a couple a day, totaling a mile.
I love Nylabones and Benebones but what I really love most of all is snuggling on the couch and sleeping in bed with my humans. I am a quiet boy and barely move through the night.
I love all humans and have become very affectionate with my foster parents. I will crawl into my person’s lap so that I can be as close as possible to them. I am quite a couch potato and snuggler! I definitely will seek out attention but am also not too insistent.
I was quite anxious when I first got to my foster home. The experience of a new home, new caregivers, and a resident dog was a little overwhelming for me for the first few days. I will need a quiet, stress-free environment until I have time to adjust.
My foster dad says I have been through a lot, especially medically, and it is heart-warming to see how well I am now doing both physically and emotionally. My hiatal hernia surgery was a huge success and has completely transformed my life and prospects for the future.
If you are looking for a quiet, loyal, and loving companion, I am your guy! You’d better apply now, before it’s too late!
