Meet Reason — a 7‑year‑old, 24‑pound sweetheart with a soft spirit, a silly streak, and a heart that has somehow stayed wide open despite a life that hasn’t always been gentle with her.
Reason spent her first years as a breeder dog and then lived with a disabled woman who adored her but couldn’t give her much time outdoors. Because of that, so much of the world is still new to her — and watching her discover it is one of the quiet joys for her foster family.
Personality & Home Life
Reason is calm, deeply affectionate, and wonderfully loyal. She follows her foster dad from room to room, curls up for snuggles at every opportunity, and would absolutely love to be a lap dog… even while you’re driving. (She’s been told she’s not the best student in driving school.)
Inside, she’s a total couch potato who loves a sunny patch of floor and a soft place to nap. Outside, she transforms into a curious little explorer. She can happily walk for an hour or more, sniffing every leaf, blade of grass, and invisible mystery she encounters. She has bursts of goofy energy, especially when doing zoomies with her Boston Terrier foster sibling.
She’s gentle with people, never jumps, and loves being petted. She would do well with older, dog‑savvy kids (12+) who understand her physical limitations and her sweet, sensitive nature.
Social Skills
Reason lives with small dogs in her foster home and gets along beautifully with them. She’s curious about other animals and has shown no aggression. She’s also a dream at the groomer — she goes every three weeks for a bath and nail trim and behaves like a little lady.
Health & Mobility
Reason has some old injuries — including fractured vertebrae, hip dysplasia, and arthritis — that give her a wiggly, sometimes wobbly gait. She takes Dasuquin for joint support and does well on it. She can manage a few steps but needs to take them slowly. A home with minimal stairs is ideal.
Her back-end weakness doesn’t stop her from enjoying life. She walks beautifully on a leash… as long as she gets to choose the route. If you try to turn her around before she’s ready, she may dramatically flop over, roll a few times, and then pop back up to continue her mission. She is unintentionally hilarious.
She was treated for a UTI in rescue and recovered well.
Car Rides & Quirks
Reason loves car rides. She’s traveled long distances without any car sickness and happily settles in — though she’d prefer to be in your lap if you let her.
She has one very funny bad habit: she is a dedicated hunter of rabbit poop. Her foster is working on this, but Reason believes this is a gourmet delicacy.
Her favorite toy? A plastic bottle with the lid on. Once she gets the lid off, the game is officially over.
She has her own soft little snore — more of a gentle whimper — that is oddly endearing.
House Manners & Ideal Home
Reason had no training when she arrived, but she’s learning quickly. She is partially housebroken and will head toward the door when she needs to go out. She does best with bathroom breaks every 2–3 hours.
She knows “stay” and “come”, though she may choose not to come if she’s busy sniffing something important. Because she’s headstrong, a fenced yard is strongly recommended.
She has never been crated in her foster home, and her previous owner said she disliked crates.
Reason would thrive in a home with:
- Very few or no stairs
- A sunny room for lounging
- Someone who enjoys long, slow walks
- Plenty of snuggle time
- A patient person who appreciates her quirks and gentle soul
She could do well in an apartment, as she rarely barks — the only time she’s barked in foster care was during zoomies.
The Heart of It
Reason is a dog who has lived quietly in the background for most of her life. Now, she’s discovering joy — real joy — in walks, sunshine, soft beds, and the people who love her. She is funny, tender, stubborn, devoted, and endlessly endearing.
She’s ready for a home where she can continue healing, exploring, and being cherished. If you’re looking for a gentle companion with a snuggly soul and a quirky sense of humor, Reason may be the one who finally makes everything make sense.
