Rico Suave is ready to start a new life with his forever home! Rico (or Corky Pig as his foster family lovingly calls him due to his corkscrew tail) is 3 years old and weighs 24 pounds. Being 3 years of age, this handsome boy usually has energy to spare. He is like a young child…plays hard and sleeps hard.
Rico was surrendered when his family found they no longer had the time to properly care for him. He is healthy other than some allergies for which he takes Apoquel. He also will need routine ear cleanings and consistent monitoring for ear infections. He is up to date on vaccines and is now neutered. He loves baths and is tolerant of all other grooming.
He is good with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. However, he will require slow introductions with dogs in his new home or if dogs visit the home. We don’t know about cats as he has not been around any. He also has not been around kids, but he likely would be okay with older (ages 15+), dog savvy children. Young children we fear may overstimulate him.
Rico does jump up some when meeting new people but is getting better with training. He also will bark at strangers but once he gets to know people, he is fine. He is a very affectionate dog to people and other dogs. He is a Velcro dog and will even follow you into the bathroom. He loves snuggles, riding in cars, playing with stuffed toys and balls, and chewing on bones. He also likes watching dogs on TV…especially if they’re barking.
He has shown resource guarding with toys and food. He is not overly aggressive with his guarding. To prevent issues, he is fed separately from the resident dogs. His resource guarding is improving with corrections. He is quite smart and accepts corrections well.
He is leash trained and crate trained, but he prefers not to be crated. He will cry when his people leave. For this reason, he would not do well living in an apartment or condo. He would love a fenced yard, but it is not required. He is about 99.5% housebroken and will go to the door to indicate he needs to go out.
Rico would thrive with someone who is home all day or someone who could take him to work. He absolutely LOVES attention! If these are not options, he would at least need a midday potty break while you are at work. He also would love a home where he has very close human companionship and another dog with whom to play.
Rico is very cute and has a great personality. He loves to follow his people around but doesn’t get under foot either. He truly is an amazing companion!
You should definitely consider applying for him! He is such a sweetheart!
