Scarlet’s Available Bio

(As told by Scarlet herself — retired supermodel, professional snuggler, part‑time egg enthusiast)

Hello, lovely people! My name is Scarlet, I’m 7 years old, I weigh a very portable 28 pounds, and I am basically a tiny emotional support potato with legs. Cute legs. Slightly arthritic legs. But still cute.

I’ve had kind of a journey getting here. I lived with one family for about three years, then another for about three or four years, and then I came to The Village when my last home had a new baby and things got overwhelming. I also had multiple litters in my early life — the vet confirmed it — so yes, I am a retired working mom, and honestly, I think I deserve a pension, a vacation, and a chaise lounge.

Despite all that, I’m in great health for a Frenchie my age. I was spayed, had a dental cleaning, and had five teeth removed (don’t worry, I still eat like a champ). I’m fully vaccinated and ready for my next chapter.

Now, let’s talk about my legs. I’ve got a little arthritis in my back legs, which means I’m not exactly built for marathons. Or hills. Or staircases. Or anything that looks like a staircase. I can do 2–3 steps, but a whole flight? Absolutely not. Mentally? Physically? Who knows. I simply refuse. If my people go upstairs without me, I will cry like a Victorian child watching her beloved governess sail away. So my forever family must be willing to carry my 28‑lb self up and down stairs or live somewhere with limited steps. I promise I’m worth the workout.

I currently live with other dogs, and I get along beautifully with them. I’m gentle, submissive, and honestly? A little too polite. If another dog tries to take my food, I just let them. I don’t complain. I don’t sass. I simply accept my fate. So supervision during meals is helpful, because I’m basically the dog version of, “No, no, you take it, I insist.”

I love kids, I’ve never shown aggression toward anyone or anything, and while I haven’t met cats or small animals, I’m pretty sure I’d be fine. The real concern is that they might be mean to me, because I am a delicate, precious flower who must be protected at all costs.

I’m a simple girl:

  • I love short walks (with frequent breaks for compliments).
  • I love playing with my foster sister, even though she’s younger and faster and I look like a bowling ball trying to keep up.
  • I love stuffed toys, chews, and snuggling.
  • I love being told I’m wonderful, which I am.
  • I love sleeping near my people — preferably in their bedroom.
  • And I love breakfast eggs. One egg every morning, please. It’s my favorite part of the day.

I do not love crates. I was said to be crate‑trained, but the first night in foster care I panted like I was running a marathon in the desert. They let me out, and I said, “Thank you, never again.” I don’t need a crate — I’m perfectly behaved — but I will be very sad if I’m shut away from my people.

I’m housebroken, but I don’t ask to go out because I don’t want to be a burden. I’m a lady. I wait politely until someone offers. My foster mom works from home, so I’ve had lots of opportunities to go out. If I’m alone for more than 4–5 hours, I’d appreciate a midday check‑in.

I don’t bark unless my foster sister barks at something important, like the doorbell. Then I back her up like a supportive best friend. I don’t react negatively to dogs or people. I’m respectful, quiet, and sweet as sugar.

I’m happiest in a home where someone is around — or where there’s another gentle dog to keep me company. I can be left alone, but I won’t thrive being alone all day. I’m a companion dog through and through. I live to love my people. I watch over them. I heal their heartaches. I sit through their Zoom meetings and snort loudly into their microphones. I am a steady, constant, loving presence.

I don’t sleep as much as my younger foster sister because I’m too busy keeping watch over my family. I’m basically the night shift. I also don’t do long hikes or long walks — my legs say no — but I will happily sleep in, snuggle, and be ready whenever you’re ready.

I’m very affectionate. I jump on people sometimes because I want to be close to them. I want to love and be loved. I want to be told I’m wonderful. I want to be near you always. I am a velcro dog with a heart of gold.

I don’t spend much time on couches or beds because I could fall and hurt my legs, but I do sit on my foster mom’s lap while she works. I am the snorting background noise on every conference call.

I’m also extremely maternal. I groom my foster sister multiple times a day, let her have the best toys and beds, and take the blame if she has an accident in the rain. I take care of my people too — waiting outside the shower, watching over them, loving them endlessly.

I am all things good in the world. I deserve a family who will give me the best of everything for the rest of my life — love, presence, protection, and maybe an egg every morning.

I’ve had a long journey, but I’m ready for my forever home. I promise to make every day better just by being there.

Love, Scarlet
